My cigar lighter is defunct!

This would not normally be a problem as I'm a non-smoker but I need to replace for my SatNav (TomTom). I've bought a 'replacement' cigar lighter from Ebay which is advertised as suitable for my model XJS but it is not a genuine Jaguar replacement unit. Probably won't fit without alterations? So I'll use on my boat & hopefully source a new one?

On inspection replacement does not appear straightforward?
The unit doesn't appear to 'push in' to the wooden centre consol? I'm concerned I may damage the wood if I use an incorrect method of extraction / replacement.

Could do with some assistance on the unit replacement process & sourcing correct part??

Any help will be appreciated?

Hi and welcome

your cigar lighter is mounted into a plastic bezel in the ski slope of the console, the bezel has four small tabs that ' lock ' it into place in the ski slope

warning, these are well known to break on removal,

so , with the aid of an old credit card, gently push the bezel to one side while lifting the opposite side to release the tabs , you may find that they are already broken , or some of them , this will allow the bezel complete with cigar lighter to be lifted upwards, there is a good amount of wiring to allow this, the wiring is a simple push fit ,and a lamp holder ,

replacement onto the bezel takes some dexterity to hold back the tabs on the green surround ( may be orange ) and pull the core from the surround ,

if your bezel is broken in any way , i have some new ones if your interested

hope this helps

Thanks that's really helpful. I'll get on with removal / replacement - if I break the surround I'll be in touch for a replacement. Best Regards Tony :)

During the Northern Day outing I noticed my sat-nav kept losing power due to the socket becoming floppy. The bits inside had corroded and broken.

During a visit to 'The Range' store in town I noticed a cigar lighter in a blister pack for £5.99 It is a bit different to the original but I guessed I could make it fit.

The hole in the black plastic support needed opening up, I found a piece of pipe, heated it with a blowtorch and melted the correct opening. It was a bit fiddly but all went together well.

The wiring needed a bit of minor alteration, just a few insulated terminals crimping on, it now works far better and the illuminated green ring looks in keeping with the other dash lights.

Just unbelievable. I have a USB substitute plugged in my lighter socket which just seems neater for sat-nav and charging other peripherals.
