Headlight Glass

Postby davidm » Wed Nov 18, 2009 4:07 pm

My RH headlight glass is smashed. :( (UK spec, oval, pre facelift)
I have obtained a second hand unit with perfect glass but the silvering is inferior to my original.
Has anyone any experience of removing the glass lens and refixing it in a different reflector?

its quite easy to remove the glass from the reflector bowl,

with the broken one, simply pull off the broken parts without cutting yourself

then using a wire or fishing line , cut the new glass off the crappy bowl, and if ur lucky the lens will stick on again, or use some silicone

I concur with BB. When I had the 'Lozenges', I had cause to remove the lens for cleaning (an exploding bulb had clouded the inside ). I used a stanley blade to remove the glass, cleaned off all the old sealant and then resealed it with fresh silicone. You'll have to tape the lens to the bowl until it has cured though (24 hours until it's fully cured)

I used the same method to replace a smashed lens on the quad set that I use now.
