Dash switches

Postby a_romeo_75491 » Tue Aug 20, 2024 12:15 pm

Greetings all,

Mine is a 1995 4 litre Celebration.
I am looking to re position the combined rear demister and hazard switches to either side of the clock.
Does anyone know if they are separate in the mounting housing or if I remove them are they combined.?

Separate question...on the assumption they are joined what separate ones could I use instead to put either side of the clock?

Thanks as ever.

Drive serenely.

David

Hi David - I’m not quite sure what you’re trying to do. Could you explain a little more please?

Hi,

Apologies if my post sounded a bit confusing, it sounded better in my head.
Essentially what I want to do is move the hazard switch from its out of sight position to the dashboard beside the clock. I notice that its combined with the rear demister switch which I wanted to separate it from.
Since my original post I have re thought the logistics and will now swap the hazard/demister housing with the light switch housing thus moving the hazard/demister switches to the dash board where I can see them. There looks to be just enough room and wire length to be able to reconnect them. I shall send some before and after pics.
Why am I doing this? I live in Jersey and love driving it in France which is just over an hour away by ferry.I have been caught out too many times fumbling for the hazard switch too often. They seem to like using theirs to warn others of hazards more so than in the UK. I have also seen an increase in this practise in Spain too.
Next thing is to source/design a high level brake light akin to the new Audi s8 range. I have been almost rear ended a few times whilst abroad. One driver told me he didn't see my brake lights as they were too low. Encroyable, mais c'est la guerre.

Drive serenely,
David

FWIW There is a genuine Jaguar part DBC11653 mounted to the rear windscreen. It seems to come in different colours, to match the interior trim. Google shows a few used ones available from the US. SNG Barratt have some new ones in various colours. If I bought one I'd probably change the 5W bulb for something LEDish.

That said, it appears to sit on the rear parcel shelf, in which case it's not much higher than the ones at the back! If it's height you want, I guess one at the top of the rear windscreen would be better, though it might obscure your rear view.

<edit>Ah, sorry, I missed that the car under discussion is a convertible. I guess the Jaguar part only fits a coupe, as it needs the glass windscreen.</edit>

David,

If you want to fit one of the boot-mounted brake light units that were fitted to US Convertibles, I have a new never-fitted one that I bought and had sprayed Sapphire Blue to fit to my car. The same as attached photo of a US car. But I ended up fitting the spoiler that has the integral brake light instead. I'd be prepared to sell it. Contact me if you're interested.

Alternatively, you could just fit LED brake bulbs which would significantly increase the visibility on your facelift car. See my article in the magazine some months ago.

Hi all,

Thanks for the responses. Errrr, I'm not sure why anyone thought its was a convertible, its the hard top version.
I have fitted LEDs front and rear and they are much better than standard, literally night and day. I did ask the supplier of these but they don't supply them.
What Im after is a an LED strip that fits along the top of the window but the ones I have seen are all quite wide. I want something that's barely noticeable when not in use.

The search continues.

Sorry, you haven't created a signature detailing your car, or mentioned in your post that it was a Coupe, so I just guessed it was a Convertible as most 95 Celebrations are Convertibles.
