Auto electricians, Cheshire

Postby JeromeNorris » Sun Apr 16, 2023 10:53 am

I live in Nantwich, South Cheshire and I am having trouble finding a qualified Auto Electrician who is not scared of working on a 1993 XJS 4.0 Air Con. I have tried all the obvious ones in my area and they all back off as soon as I mention XJS and Air Con. Some do not even reply to my enquiries. The problem is electrical not mechanical. The system is dead and the 20 amp fuse to the LH air blower will blow with a spectacular red flash when replaced. The job is beyond my capabilities and I need an auto electrician with knowledge. Any suggestions from members will be appreciated.

Too far away from Nantwich to offer an Auto Electrician, but a 20A fuse blowing as spectacularly as you describe, would point towards a dead short on the circuit, probably to earth. Use a suitable multi meter to check if the power side of the supply from the fuse is going direct to ground / earth.

Can't help with an auto electrician (or any other Jag indys in north Shropshire/south Cheshire for that matter) but if you are up for removing the blower motor yourself, there's quite a good description here:
https://www.jag-lovers.org/xj-s/book/acblower.htm

It doesn't exactly cover your issue, although my money would be on the control circuit having a short somewhere, but with the motor out and the circuit info you might be able to persuade an electrician to have a look?

Thank you gentlemen for your suggestions and advice. I will investigate them all and let you know how I get on. If you don't hear from me I have probably blown myself and the car into oblivion!
