Mystery Bracket with nothing attached to it...

Hello all,

Whilst I've been working on my car I noticed a bracket that looks suspiciously like it should have something attached to it:



I only noticed it when I removed the air filter box.

Any ideas?

It's part of the bracket that supports the pipes for the oil cooler. I can't see any oil pipes on your photo so perhaps the cooler has been removed and a by-pass fitted?

That was quick, Pop - thanks for the answer! Yes, the oil cooler has been removed from my car and the bypass bracket is present instead.

I guess that's one less thing to go bang on a hot day and leave me stranded.

talking of thigs going bang, I would seriously consider changing that fan asap. The yellow fans are notorious for getting deterioration cracks where the blades meet the central hub part. Jaguar discontinued production of the yellow fans as a result.

If a fan blade lets go, it can easily punch a hole through a bonnet.

It would be the next urgent item on my shopping list.

You're not the first person to say that Paul! I've inspected the fan and can't see any cracks on it like I've seen on other cars, but I guess for the sake of a few quid and a bit of labour, it's probably best not to take the chance, right?

SNG Barrett have an OEM fan for £162.42 or a 3rd party pattern part for £41.34 - That's quite a saving... I never know whether its wise to stray from the authentic parts though!

Alternative is to remove it and use an electric fan. Something I've thought about for a long time but never go around to doing.

Check your part numbers carefully. I believe the 3.6 fan is EAC9367. SNG only seem to sell one version which is an aftermarket version at £90. I can't see an OEM version or a cheaper aftermarket one on their website.

Haha - yes, you're right! I got confused as it looks like a lot more fans are compatible with the 3.6/4.0L XJS and XJ40 if you check the David Manners website, but the picture on SNG's website of EAC9367 seems very different to those items at DM's. I'll take my existing fan off for the sake of comparison before I order anything so I can be sure it's the correct part.
