I'm plowing through my winter checklist, one of the faults is that although the hazard switch operates all the indicators as it should I have no warning lamp showing on the instrument binnacle. The green repeaters work with the indicators as mormal but not with hazards. I also thought that the switch also lights up but it's been so long since I've used it I can't remember.
Before I tear things apart can anyone confirm what lights up when it is operated please? I also wonder if would be an MOT fail.
(Pre-facelift, V12 should be the same as the 6).
Hazard swich, does it have a lamp inside?

I think it should have internal illumination but I'm not sure it flashes in operation. Does it flash both indicator lamps on the dashboard?
I'm slightly ashamed that I owned of those cars for 14 years and can't recall!

Re: Hazard swich, does it have a lamp inside?
Its odd isn't it. 20 years of ownership and I don't have a clue!
I have no-tell tale lamps showing at all for the hazards, options could be the 2 green 'indicator' lamps, the red triangle in the row of warning lamps and the switch itself. Unlikely to be all of them together!
Some googling suggests a MOT fail under the recent changes where it was an advisary before.
I forsee many owners going out to their cars to check now
and I can see David penning a magazine article.

Re: Hazard swich, does it have a lamp inside?
Right, I think I can answer this now.
Having stripped out the instrument binnacle and tested the wiring and bulb only to find everything was as it should be, my attention turned to the hazard switch itself.
Getting the damn thing out was a struggle, it does pull out like the other switches, but only once the electrical connector is disconnected first which plugs into it's side, so the wood trim has to come off. The very thin wood veneer is bonded to an amost as thin metal backing so great care is needed. There are two small bulbs next to the switches but these are only for general lighting.
Once the switch was out it looked generally grubby and the metal securing clips had surface rust, I'm thinking that as it backs onto the air conditioning ducts maybe the area gets a bit of condensation. Anyway, having flooded the switch internals with proper electrical contact cleaner and operating it a lot, it did feel much crisper and once plugged in, the hazard idiot lamp worked correctly again.
The red triangular idiot lamp on the instrument binnacle is the only thing that lights up, it doesn't operate the two green indicator lamps and there isn't a bulb in the switch itself.
