no spark?

Postby crockett169 » Sat Jun 14, 2008 1:49 am

Hi

My 1988 3.6 turns over but doesn't produce a spark. I have changed the distributor coil, the rotor arm and the distributor cap. It still turns but no ingnition.

Can anyone advise a way to troubleshoot or a common solution to this.

Forgive my ignorance.

Thanks

James

Sounds to me like the crankshaft sensor that tells the engine ECU where the engine is in its rotation. If this has failed then the ECU gets "lost" and won't trigger a spark. It's a fairly common failure.

Thanks for the help.

It actually turned out to be a loose multi block connector near the distributor - really hard to work out as it was only intrmitantly faulty and needed a second person to press it together whilst I turned it over. Sorted it with a tight snap tie.
