The interior lights on my XJS refuse to switch off! Has anyone else experienced this problem please and if so can you point me in the right direction as how to cure it. I'm having to disconnect the battery at the moment after using the car - otherwise the interior lights are draining it flat. I realise that there is a delay on the lights before they switch off but this is obviously not functioning.
Many thanks for any advice offered.

Re: 1994 XJS Coupe 4.0l Interior Lights not switching off!!
Chris,
Do you mean the lights in the sunvisors? If so, just turn them off so they don't function whilst you investigate the problem.
Do the lights stay off whilst driving?
Try carefully disconnecting the door contact switches, clean them and check for proper operation.
Good luck
Paul

Hello Paul
Many thanks for your reply. I realise that the sun visor lights can be switched off but it's the remainder of the interior lights that are on all the time!
I'll have a go at the door pillar switches and see if that cures the problem
Thanks again

Re: 1994 XJS Coupe 4.0l Interior Lights not switching off!!
There is a module under the dash on the passenger side which controls the interior lights, alarm interface, warning chimes and a few other things that I can't remember! I'd suggest that this is malfunctioning. If you disconnect it then that might be easier than disconnecting the battery.
Hope that helps

The official name for it is "Multi Function Module" and is part number DAC11139. It is mounted under the dash on the passenger side next to the fuse box.
Bad news is that it's no longer available from Jaguar but there is one on eBay at the moment (all be it that it's listed for an Aston Martin!) at £65.
I got one from Grublogger a couple of years ago

Chris - it may be as well to try one before you commit. Do you know of anyone near you with a similar car?
I don't know which area of the country you are in but if you are able to bring your car to the Kemble breakfast meet tomorrow morning I'll bring along my multi-function module for you to try. Can't bring my car I'm afraid - its still in bits in my garage!

Re: 1994 XJS Coupe 4.0l Interior Lights not switching off!!
Thanks very much David. Unfortunately, I live near Sheffield - though know Kemble very well! My daughter and son and their families both live in Malmesbury and as an ex- RAF pilot I have taken part in numerous air shows over the years!
However, I've taken the plunge and sent for the module! If it doesn't do the job then I'll try and pass it on. I've also been experiencing problems with the central locking and the alarm system so I'm hoping that they are all tied in together. When I try to lock the driver's door with the key it immediately unlocks itself although, the passenger door locks Ok! The alarm is useless at present .
Thanks very much once again for taking the time to send me all this advice. I'll let you know how things work out once the module arrives - when I've found where it is in the car. I've had a quick look and I presume it's under the glove compartment or in my case under the passenger's airbag!
Hope all goes well for your meeting tomorrow.
Regards
Chris

Re: 1994 XJS Coupe 4.0l Interior Lights not switching off!!
Chris.
An "unlocking" door is often by caused by minor misadjustment of the rods that go between the chrome lever and the lock actuator, or even just lubrication of the mechanism.
Good luck

Re: 1994 XJS Coupe 4.0l Interior Lights not switching off!!
I have just purchased my first jaguar. 94 XJS. The interior lights wouldn't turn off, and I found this thread after searching the internet for some help. I found and removed the multi function unit, gave it a squirt and returned it. No change. Then took a closer look at the door buttons and discovered that if I held in the drivers button, the lights would in fact turn off after 10 seconds. I noticed the striker plate that was attached to the top of the door was dented slightly from years of use, and guessed that the button wasn't being pushed in far enough.
Took off striker plate, ( just one self tapping screw), tapped out the dent , and replaced it with a packing piece behind it so its less likely to dent again in the future. Interior lights now turn off as they should....... Aren't I clever
A free easy fix ! Doesn't happen very often....

Well done! Isn't it satisfying to find and then fix a problem like this and especially good when you do it for free!!
