What headlamp bulbs ?
Moderators:davidr, BigCatXJS, dhdove
Does anyone have the type details of bulbs for a 1991 XJS Le Mans ? The 4 lamp car. I have a friend with one who has no handbook and wishes to upgrade to Phillips plus 130% bulbs if possible and needs this info to order on line. I think they may be H4 but confirmation would help.

Should be easy enough to just remove the existing bulb and see exactly what it is, better then ordering the wrong ones.
Mine has access doors in the wheel liners but I don't know if all models have them.

Re: What headlamp bulbs ?
'Access Doors' is elevating the status of the ridiculous bits of plastic somewhat and my friend at 83 and non mech. minded is certainly incapable of going fumbling under the wheel arch trying to change the bulbs with his fingertips down the obscure hole, which is why I asked for help. Why access could not have been from the engine compartment will remain a mystery known only to Jaguar.
He will have to get the bulbs then pay to have some poor unfortunate fit them and curse the 'designers'.

Re: What headlamp bulbs ?
Paul,
He might have to get someone to look at the lights. The Le Mans is unusual as the only UK model that had the twin lights. If they were based on the US lights current at the time, they might even be sealed beam units as per US spec.. When the conversion kits were brought out some years later, I think they used a combination of H1 & H4 bulbs. Many owners convert sealed beam headlights to separate-bulb type, so best to get a proper look and confirm what is actually currently fitted.
You may think the XJS is difficult to get to that panel. But compared to changing a bulb on an x350, it's a piece of cake!
Good luck

Might seem stupid but with the wheel off, a piece of cake!
