Fuel Guage

Postby ricardo » Thu Sep 28, 2006 7:31 pm

:(
I have a 1994 facelift 4.0l XJS, I have not had it too long and everything works as it should at the moment;;;;;
BUT the FUEL GUAGE has mind of its own, I fill the tank to max, the guage reads half a tank, then within 10 miles it is in the red bit,
If then you then turn off the engine the guage goes to half a tank and then slowly drops to the red section, where it stays for 250 miles or so;
I have changed the sender unit but it did`nt make any difference.
Can anyone help please ?
Thankyou very much; Richard in Doncaster

Have a look at the thread by 'legless'. Sounds like a similar problem?

Fuel Gauge

Postby keithmervyn » Mon Oct 02, 2006 6:18 pm

I too have a fuel gauge with a mind of its own - am told it needs a new "slosh module" whatever that does (I think it damps the movement of the sender in the tank ?) - I haven't got around to spending the £60+ yet, I just fill her up and then use the brain-gauge to judge the next fill-up!

I, too, am a member of the under-reading fuel gauge club! I keep meaning to take the instrument cluster out and check the tightness of the screws as that seems to be a common suggestion. It also feels a lot cheaper than new senders and slosh relays! I've now decided that it's a job for next weekend. Will report back..
