Where is Suffolk SS

Whilst looking through the various forums I came upon, what was possibly the first angry voice with regard to the provision of a separate area for replicas.
The outcome of this plus other posts was that the officers of the club provided us with our own area which is great however, what ever happened to SS who wrote this first missive?
It is also apparent that, despite all the effort, there is still only a very small group of replica enthusiasts prepared to involve themselves in the forum which, IMHO, is a great shame as there are many fantastic cars out there which their owners could share with us, so come on all you others, please join us and let us share your dreams.

As someone who has recently got a selfbuilt Suffolk on the road, I have been reading the posts with interest. I am in Hampshire and would welcome keeping in touch with other Southern owners to share plans problems and the like. How about a simple 'WhatsApp' group to share comments at random?
I am currently looking into silencing, ride height, rad. expansion tanks, windscreen washers (I know they weren't in 1937) and am firming up a number of ideas.
Cheers
Malcolm

I’m here Malcolm!!
I completed building my Suffolk SS100 about a year ago. Had many very enjoyable short journeys and a couple of trips to France. I’m looking forward to longer European journeys next year I would welcome discussions on any technical matters etc

Hi All,
I completed my first Suffolk SS100 in 2009 (I think). My second is an ongoing project ..... trying to build it better than the first.
The first has taken me to Le Mans Classic and four tours of Spain with Roger and Classics on the Road, wonderful trips. The 2017 event didn't happen for various reasons but we hope to go again in 2018. Every trip is different.
I hope Malcolm has sorted his ride height etc but if not I can recommend Dave Gallrd (?) at Track Developments in Wiltshire. Prior to the 2015 tour I took the car to him for 'tuning'. No space here to describe the process but for about £60 or so the car was transformed. When my wife drove it in Spain she said it was a differnt car
One possible reason for lack of obvious interest in the forum is that there is no 'update' mechanism saying someone has posted something. I rarely spend time just browsing looking to see if anything interesting has been said. would a notification system be possible?
I live ten miles south of Oxford and often attend the JEC Thames Valley events.
Mike

Glad this topic is showing some signs of life! Where are you near Brunel100? I am in Romsey, just outside Southampton, so about an hour from Oxford.
Classic Le Mans is on in 2018 July 6th -8th I think. Never been but heard good reports. I did Kop Hill Climb as my first proper 'run' last Sept. It was very good apart from my suspension setting (hard) and a floor that was not fully sealed (wet in deep puddles!)
I think I am getting on top of suspension as far as knowledge goes. Bill Rawles of Rawles Motorsport is 20 miles away and I have spoken to him. I will post on the Ride Height topic when I reach a good point.
Additional silencing very successful so far (What price second hand earplugs anyone?)
Cheers

Chaps,
Obviously Suffolk SS is a niche market. But that`s perhaps the intrinsic issue. What all of us who share the Jaguar magic can do is to encourage and say you are not in a wilderness. Personally, I watch many of the posts on our site although might have nothing I can contribute through lack of experience with the model. I`m not the only one, but we are watching.
But take hope for the long term. These cars are incredibly interesting, charismatic and enigmatic. I applaud your efforts in re-creating images of a past long gone. And that`s me running an X350R!
So I say to you, don`t get disheartened or disappointed at responses. There are many of us here from other mainstream sections of the general Forum scene who watch and view your posts. We are with you every inch of the way.
In finishing I would say if anyone wants to supercharge their Suffolk, I might be the clot to assist.
Keep at it, chaps.
All the best.

We'll be going to Classic le Mans in 2018 and as we went in a noisy Ferrari in 2016 we'll probably use the Suffolk this time. We camp with Speed Chills just across the road from ACO stands. Brilliant setup. No need to move the car from arrival to departure! Night racing is all the more enjoyable when you only have to walk a couple of hundred yards to see it. Mike

Hi Malcom and Mike
I share the view that you really don’t know if anything has been posted without logging on as I just have done
Malcolm, I like the idea of Whats Apping but then that excludes those who are not on the system
Sounds like we need a Suffolk co ordinator Are you busy Mr Duff?
A Supercharged Suffolk? Now that would be a challenge as there’s barely enough room for the alternator and on the offside my pancake filter bolt has rattled its way through one of the louvres, but still it’s a lovely thought!

WhatsApp group could start small and grow by encouragement and geographical proximity. The existence could be promoted via the JEC?
I also hope to fit a rad. Overflow tank to prevent coolant loss. I think there is space above the alternator? Anyone tried??
Cheers Malcolm

Gentlemen - why do you want a what's app group? Why not share your thoughts here so the rest of us can benefit?

Malcolm
I would be interested to hear about your fitting of an overflow tank
I proposed such a thing to Mike Tink after overheating in a long queue in very hot day in France and having two people tell me I was losing water. He said it was unnecessary but I think it would be worth it and wouldn’t look out of place
I also fitted a manual override on the electric fan with small warning light to try and minimise the problem
Re comment about WhatsApp it may not be needed if we keep up this level of conversation
BTW I’m located in North Kent area
Feel free to call me for technical discussions, indeed any subject 07885 622260

Hi Ray
Overflow tank
I got stuck in a long queue going into Salisbury last summer. Temp gauge hit 90 and I was switching off as much as I could. Temp normally is rock steady at 70. It is still a design project, but I am thinking of getting one off the peg in polished Ali and cutting the base and a slice off with a neat reweld job to fit. I think it could work and fit OK. Perhaps I should start another thread for it?
Happy to chat to any of you on 07779 728422
Cheers
Malcolm

I must agree with the comment by Davidr, what we have always needed are more posts on here not a separate info exchange especially for old goats like me who have no idea what a WhatsApp is.
In the meantime, my I wish all our readers a very happy xmas and a prosperous new year.

Good Evening All. I agree with Mike about the difficulty of noticing what has changed in the forum. I think the funny icon to the left of each thread does show what is new but it is hard to see new stuff easily. With any online forum it is difficult to encourage interchange of information. Some folks lack confidence and fear asking silly questions and others, probably like me have too many opinions. However I also think there is no such thing as a stupid question so if anyone reading this has a problem, grumble, niggle or a question please ask it and do not be afraid of starting a new thread because it will be easier to find when the next member/owner has a similar problem.
Neil
PS
I also do not use whats app.
