Hi there

My other half and I are the proud owners of the black beauty below.
Built in 2004 from a kit, only 7400 miles on the clock.
It has only done 100 miles a year over the last few years according to the MOT history, so needs to see the road!

My car is just about the opposite on the road for 6 years and we have done nearly 33000 miles. We do lots of touring assemblies and always find our car is very welcome and popular.
Please take a look the Replica Forum pages there are some really good nuggets of information in here. Not only on the Suffolk pages. Plus I like to keep an eye on the XJ series 1-3 , and the XJs sections because they use the same mechanical bits.
In addition there is a very good JDC replica Facebook group online which although being very C and D type biased also includes some good information on the Suffolk SS100.

If you have just bought the car think about checking the brake and clutch flexibles and also check the suspension bushes. There are details in this section.

We're near Billingshurst in West Sussex.
We're members of SADCASE - Storrington and District Classic and Sports Car Enthusiasts and get to as many shows as time permits.

Luckily we have a local classic Jag expert who has given the car the once over, trimmed up the suspension and the carbs.
All should be well for next year, seeing as the salt spreading season is starting

Every time I have taken my car to a show there has always been at least one person who has told me my SS100 was not real, or that it had the wrong sort of wheels or that my steering wheel is not lined up correctly. We have found that the classic touring crowd are more genuine and less picky. However, some would claim my gripe with shows is boot envy, I do not have a boot so we have no room for the picnic table, chairs sunshade and the matching 3 piece suite to set up round my car.
Oops there I go again, but would admit there is a little bit of boot envy now and then.

No experience with the SS so far but we've had a RAM Cobra for a couple of years.

You always get some nerd who asks "is it real?" so I tap it and say "it's certainly not a hologram"
But that is 5% of people you talk to, most are very interested in the car for what it is.

Hello Alan,
Having just re joined the JEC after a year with the JDC ( they are more "C" type aware ) I am now back to enjoy some SS100 banter. Your car looks really nice although I don't envy you keeping that beautiful black paint clean.
My new SS100 is currently in build at the works and I am awaiting delivery in the Spring. This will be my second SS100 having had a trip down tangent boulevard with a "C" Type and an "E" Type. I am in contact with a number of other SS100 owners who are all very enthusiastic about the car but don't seem to want to contribute to the site, but no matter we have the benefit of a couple of very knowledgeable people on here who are usually able to answer most questions plus I do tend to haunt the works ( I have a season ticket !! ) so I can usually find out most things.

Personally, my wife and I are probably half way between you and Neil in as much as we prefer to drive but do attend a few choice shows where it has proven to be that the attendees are of the sort that don't want to lean on your car or insult you with stupid comments. I do hope you enjoy your car as they are brilliant things giving as they do all the beauty of a '30's sports car with all the peace of mind of brakes that work and gears that do change easily. Do keep us up to date with your experiences.

I agree on black paint so we had the paint ceramic coated at Reep (as was the Cobra) and the dirt literally rinses off!
We visited the factory just before we bought the car so may even have seen yours in build!

One question I would like answering is how the hood locks in place?
I find that when I pull it in place and hook the hooks onto the windscreen it leaves a 1/4inch gap where the wind howls in.
I've tried adjusted the windscreen but to no avail - thoughts?

Hello Alan,

Sorry, forgot the name, it's "Reg" to my friends ( which I will count you as one ) and "Oy, you" to everyone else !! As I recall, the hood hooks are just simple over centre things which should fix the hood correctly. Have you pushed the side supports up to correctly to tension the rear / side panels? They are the thin, black, hinged struts either side that fold flat when you lower the hood. You should always release the tension from these prior to folding the hood also. Final check should be that you have fitted the rubber channel over the top of the windscreen before fitting the hooks. Hope these things will help, if not, may I suggest that you mail Mike at the works, he will be able to do a step by step for you.
