“Dechrome” of S2 dials?

Enjoyed a trip to Gaydon today for the first ever weekday breakfast meet. Poked my nose through the cabin of the last of the line XJCs and was a bit surprised to see the main instruments without the “chrome” (aka silver paint) around the rims. These ones look more like the S3 to me although I don’t think they actually are.

I’m interested as mine have worn down the silver colour, and also on the main switch section. Have always pondered trying to get some kind of silver pen to try recolouring.

Yes, the final XJCs did without the instrument dial silver finish. Typically, they were those cars also fitted with the later oblong driver's door mirrors. I can't be certain but I suspect the last cars were probably '1978 model year' cars made after the 1977 annual summer factory shut-down. Mike.
