How do I remove the top crash roll?

I can't figure out how to remove the top crash roll from my 1970 series 1. I have removed the four screws (2 under the crash roll and two behind the radio speaker) and the demister vents.

I can't figure out how to remove it. It moves a little bit, but not much. It feels that some additional tangs are holding it.

Do I have to lower the entire front facia?

There are 6 screws holding the crash roll. Two in the speaker recess; one either end of the crash roll and two more in the centre (behind the centre fascia panel). Then, it should come free. Mike.

Thanks Mike for your excellent advice! Because of other projects I have not worked with my XJ6 series 1 again, until yesterday. You were quite right, there are two screws behind the center panel. These are not mentioned in the original workshop manual!
