I've got a 2002 (03 MY) 3l (early body, late interior) SAJAC01B43FM65461. My sunglasses storage cubby in the overhead console doesn't fasten securely and comes open on bumpy roads.
I'm trying to remove the whole overhead console so I can work on the catch. Is there a special trick to freeing the overhead console tangs, please? I'm just prying at the moment and afraid of breaking something.
thanks, Ollie

Re: overhead console
I don't know if the S type cubby is similar to that on the X350 XJ, but on that model I have replaced the catch without removal of the overhead console. It just required the old catch to be prised out and a new one (rather expensive) to be clicked in place. Worth it to stop the cubby door falling down!

Re: overhead console
I replaced the console on my 2004 s type a couple of years ago
From memory it needed a good tug starting at the windscreen , think there are two fixings on the front and one on each side it just pulls out but you need to be brave with it

Re: overhead console
Agree with above, it is just clipped in, gentle but firm force and it will come out.

Re: overhead console
Thanks to both Andys - I needed something to give me confidence. Meanwhile I'll try Brian's suggestion first. An online post suggested turning the latch 180 degrees - that seems to make mine worse, so perhaps someone else has already flipped it once
Has anyone tried the cheaper offerings from Ebay?
