XJS For Sale! (I think)

Although I really, really don't want to, I think it might be time for me to sell my beloved XJS. I have recently acquired a Jaguar XJR and I don't think I have the time or the bank balance to give two Jags the attention they both deserve.
It will ease my sorrows considerably if I see her go to a good home. I will probably advertise her in JEC mag, but thought I would ask on here first, if anyone would be interested in a cared for and hugely reliable and useable XJS, with much much work done, please PM me for more detail.

Hi Jon, I will admit that the XJ-R does look tempting to me as well. If you havn't already, log onto the main JEC members forum site where there have been many discussions on the beast.
Although the 6 cyl is the most practical, I really fancy a V8 version if ever the popmobile gives in big time.
I've always thought it a pity that the xj-s didn't last long enough to recieve the straight-six supercharged 4 Litre engine, sorry V12 lovers

Pop!! How could you say such a thing!! The XJ-S was born with the best engine in the world!! The V12!!!
Now don't let me hear such blasphemy again!!
Best Engine in the world?

I thought that the best engine in the world was in the Lockheed SR71 Blackbird (Pratt and Whitney J58)
In any event, the original XJS V12 engine (carbs and all) cannot easilly be compared with the AJ16 I think.........the two are separated by thirty years!
I guess that the "best engine in the world" is a child of its time.
New thread perhaps?

Much as though I love the Jaguar V12 whether fuel injected or carbs, my favourite engine for size, weight, power and tunability is a 350 c.i. ls1 4 bolt chevrolet V8, smaller than a rover V8 and strong enough to take a super charger. Oh and the sound through an exhaust system consisitng of 2" 4-2-1 manifolds straight into 2 cherry bombs is something you've got to hear. Its like someone playing a samba on your chest with sledgehammers

I do like the Jaguar V12 really! I had one myself in a 1985 Series 3, a V12 Sovereign, It had a replacement engine after 250,000 miles which came out of a donor XJ-S, so the thread is still on topic, sort of.
Best engine, ever...umm I'm thinking RR Merlin or RR Trent (As I played a small part in developing it!) The Trent that is, I'm not THAT old.
Have you sold the car yet Jon? <whistles>.

Interestingly a guy from Swindon built a full scale replica of the prototype Spitfire K5054 in the nineteen eighties, proper job too. When it came to finding an engine he couldn't get/afford a Merlin so fitted a Jag carb V12........lovely. Flew well until it developed a fault and crashed..
