Annual work up

Mission creep has set in again!
What started of as a general fettling with a few jobs and an MOT has turned into another marathon, there goes the boat budget!
Variously the state of the old fuel tank, badly corroded and stinking the car out, shocking state of the radius arm bushes which were only fitted last year and done a few thousand miles at most. Fitted new DB7 springs and shocks last year but apparently the collets were fitted the wrong way round putting the alignment out by about 10mm resulting in split bushes; now replaced with Aston units and Vee mounts.
Genuine TWR back boxes with twin pipes, more dreaded rust but not a huge amount thankfully.
Also done are the diff seal, gearbox seal and spring mount, very expensive oil change, drop link bushes replaced, steering rack leak fixed, entire fuel pipe replaced from tank to engine, front brakes and ABS sorted, thermostats and rotor arm replaced along with throttle actuator arms and bushes.
I need a lie down in a darkened room now.
David at Alders Classics reports that the car is running really well and sounds great; unfortunately I can't get it back until the week after next but I'll report back then.

Hi,

Do you know where your fuel lines were sourced from - mine will need replacing soon and have not been able to find original parts anywhere?

I think that he just got a length of copper fuel line and made it up from scratch.

Well, the car is nearly done. Flew through its MOT last week with the tester saying what great condition it was in and then later wouldn't start!
Turns out that one of the crank sensors was breaking down so getting them both changed and hopefully it will be fine.
Should get it back next week and can't wait to hear what it sounds like; centre boxes removed and TWR twin tail pipes.

sounds like your getting a little excited......and why not

the sound is quite different and quite sporty ,

at idle she will ' burble '

at low revs she will ' warble '

and a full chat she will ' growl '

and i think you may like it , lol

do you know which sensor was breaking down , or do you think it was just a gap distance issue ? as they need to be within 2 thou , no matter what the book says....

David said that it was the front one but he is going to change them both to be on the safe side; I guess that they will be of a similar age and if one is going pear shaped then the other probably won't be far behind.

Always a good idea to change suspension parts in matched pairs. Did the same myself when I replaced all bushes in sets recently when I completely ripped out and rebuilt my S-type suspension.

Once you change some components they tend to show up other aged parts. One thing often leads to another!

So true but sometimes cost can be a factor; as I said at the start, mission creep has totally set in again!

Well, the beast has returned.
Unfortunately I am stuck away at work until the 14th so can't even look at it let alone drive it.
Bummer!
