Latest escapade at Curborough sprint from yesterdays Sporting Bears event. There was a lot a very capable machinery there, but the XJ-S was noted for its exhaust note :D

Rich

i really like your vids , to the point i have bought my own cam ,

from my own perspective, i would like to see some of the car in the pic , not to prove its a jag, but to enjoy some of the lines while ripping up the track ??

i have a sunroof and am going to experiment of having the camera looking down over the bonnet, or stuck on the rear drivers side window to get that long nose in the shot ,

but as i said, i really enjoy the vids, and the noise of those wonderful exhausts ,

i gave mine some welly yesterday by using the locked in second gear, wow , it brings the auto to life , and i took it to nearly 5k revs, i don't think she has been there for a long time with my previous sickly gearbox ( now replaced )

good to see you last weekend,

catch you again soon i hope

Hiya Vince,

Many thanks for your kind words. I know exactly what you mean - it would be nice to see some shots of the XJS. At last years event, they had a semi-pro camera guy positioned in the marshaling hut at the end of the straight. I was fortunate enough to get an edited copy on DVD. I had hoped to use some of the footage in last years video, but the content was under copywrite and it had been compiled on a Mac so I could not decode it even if I wanted to... This year, as it was the May event; no camera guy; but a photographer taking stills.

I like your idea of using the sunroof to mount the cam. Some of the guys yesterday did similar and also tried sticking it on the bonnet. I have a suction pad mount, but it's unreliable and I don't trust it! It would need a lot of grip to mount say on the XJS wing looking backwards or similar.

Really good catching-up last weekend - hope you had a good run back.

Cheers, Rich

yes, a good run till we got to Bicester , accident on the bypass which closed the road, so had to go ' greenlaning ' lol

took about 3 hours 15 for the return ,

as for the camera mount, the camera came with the ' handlebar ' bracket, and i have bought the correct sucktion mount, and its really strong, so much i can lift up my computer desk , lol

i would be hesitant about mounting it on a painted panel , i could imagine the succession would dimple the bodywork , so I'm only going to mount it on glass

will have to go out and put it on the car when it stops raining and take some stills and see what view and angles i have

for those who are wondering what we are talking about , here is my HD cam that will run for two and a half hours, and take still etc

sorry , seem to have hijacked this thread,

i tried some experimental mounting of the camera onto the XJS today ,

first one is at the front of the sunroof

next one is on the drivers rear side window

next, the drivers quarter light over the door mirror , i like this one as i can control the camera by sticking my arm out the window, lol

last one, least desirable, on the rear window looking over the roof

so, the result of this experiment seems to be either the sunroof, the drivers quarter light, or drivers side rear window

BB,

Good to see you and your son last week!

Will that suction mount hold on ok when placed on an external surface? I'm toying with the idea of getting either a looping internal dashcam or one of these types (if they can mount externally ok).

cool

just went for a quick drive, and the camera was still there when i got back, the suction was strong enough to shut the drivers door with it still on the window, so i don't think there is any fear of it coming off

a simple safety strap could be made to loop round the door mirror if the suction failed, at least it wouldn't turn into a million bits on the road

i have a lot of ' wind noise '( nothing to do with sitting on the sofa at the end of the day ) so will see if i can reduce that somehow ?

O/S Drivers quarter glass and rear positions look good to me. Wind noise is a problem (Nurse!); the cam I have mounted in front of the lower radiator grill suffers from fan noise and head-wind noise. I tried using the foam slice with the hole that comes with the cam, but it did not make much difference. The cam almost needs a foam or knitted glove to muffle the wind.

James

slightly misleading to be honest, that was £25 on ebay ,
they retail around the £80 mark , but after receiving what i did , and its quality , i would pay £80 for what it does and how good it is

James,

Cheapest at the moment seems to be about £52 via Amazon, although I think you'll only get the basic mount.

you can get the suction mount on amazon for £7.99 as well now, £14 on ebay

i used both mounts to make what i needed, as the tops ARE interchangeable as long as they are both genuine monoprice items

32 gig mem cards are less than a tenner on ebay , make sure you get the best transfer speed you can , i think mine is 60meg per second, some are as low as 20 , some as high as 90 ,

pays ur money takes your choice

32 meg will give 2.5 hours of HD video

BB

just got to upload some vids to youtube like Rich has,
