V12 Versus 3.6 bonnet

Chaps, this is my first time in the Forum after "teethig troubles" getting log-in to work but Webman waved his wand and all is now well. Anyway, question is this ;Am I right in saying that the V12 bonnet will not fit a 3.6 because the engine sticks up at the front, ie it is tall whereas the V12 is squat and wide. I have just sold one on E-bay but the buyer has a 3.6 and I never mentioned the car it came off. regards. Maurice.

Hi,
and welcome

yes, you are correct, the V12 has a lower bulge in the bonnet as the V12 engine is not as high in the engine bay as a 3.6 ( or 4ltr )

so......

a V12 bonnet will only fit a V12 engined car,

however, a 3.6 bonnet will fit either engine bay ,

if you sold the bonnet as a ' V12 ' item and mentioned it in the listing, then you have no comeback , you prolly have no comeback anyway if the buyer didnt ask the question b4 the listing ended and he had already won the item,

buyer beware........and all that

hope this helps

Maurice,

Welcome to the Forum!

I agree with Brake buster, I don't think anyone should have any comeback on you as long as you didn't misdescribe it. If you had a photo of the bonnet, it would have been obvious to a knowledgeable buyer. Even if you didn't have a photo, it's up to the buyer to ask if they are not sure. If you just advertise it as an XJS bonnet, and someone doesn't ask, you can't be expected to know that they might want it for a different model. It's unfortunate for the buyer, but I really don't feel that you should feel any obligation to take it back or refund any money.

As a suggestion, don't leave feedback for the buyer until they've left feedback for you - just in case they do leave some negative feedback. At least you'll then have the right of reply.

Good Luck

Welcome Maurice,
I guess if the buyer slams it down really hard, it too will have a bulge in the appropriate place
