The Sales guy at Guy Salmon rang me last week and asked me if I'd look at the car for them. I popped down there today and had a cursory look but the Sales rep was out so I didn't get to look at the engine which was really what they wanted me to do. So I'll probably go back tomorrow.
What I can say for now is that the car is incredibly clean and the TWR bodykit has its original fasteners and seals, badges etc. It also has a Series XJ 6-dial instrument cluster replacing the main instrumnets and barrel gauges. It's also probably Sebring Red, not Signal Red. I'll confirm tomorrow.
When I see the car again, I'll confirm what engine mods are in place + the expected TWR plate on engine bay. I'll also have a look at the paperwork to try and verify the TWR mods.
If anyone is interested in the car, let me know and I can look it over for you.

Could be a good news one, Paul?? Let's hope so. Guess they don't come up often?

Genuine TWR cars are rare, particularly with engine mods. TWR Cabs even rarer.

Well, even though I am NOT YET in a position to buy, it is nice to know there are some very nice cars coming up..so I must not be disappointed!!
There will be more! I really don't think this will wait around!

It seems very expensive for a Cabriolet, even though it's very nice. It depends what the TWR spec and condition means to someone.

The Clarke's one is another imported car, I believe, even though it's RHD. Probably brought in from Japan.

Yes, the number plate space looks right for Japanese spec! It is what I thought.
The cab may be expensive but perhaps that could be counterbalanced by rarity..if it is all genuine.
As I mentioned before, think the trade is putting high markups, perhaps testing thewaters. If they sell, then it will inflate the marque accordingly. Just feel perhaps they've jumped the gun and taken it a bot too far!! Some cars are not selling!

Only one independent seems to be asking very big money and that seems to be mainly for the 6 litres. As regards whether the cars are selling for those prices, I suspect we'll never know!

No! I suspect offers are made...and sometimes they sell!
This is the last one Clarke's had. Went some time ago. Still on Classiccars..

I had another look at the TWR Cabriolet at Guy Salmon's yesterday and got to see the engine bay etc.
The car is really very good and with great provenance having originally been registered with TWR as their demonstrator. It has the original letters from the TWR dealer and Jaguar. Apart from the TWR suspension, bodykit, wheels etc, it also has the original TWR air intake trumpets plus the TWR bonnet sticker together with another sticker implying that it has a TransGo auto transmission reprogramming kit.
It was clearly fastidiously maintained in its early life, evidenced through service history and invoices. It's only done about 5k in the last 7 years with little formal service history although apparently the owner has done necessary maintenance and all the MoTs evidence the mileage.
Overall, it's a lovely car in Sebring (not Signal) Red, great interior, excellent provenance of original spec and build. Clearly garaged all its life, it's a rare unusual XJS with low mileage. Let's hope it goes to a good home!

Interesting car... Am I right in spotting no barrel dials for fuel etc n that car? Is this common for TWR car?

Doubt it'll be around for me..but sure it would go to an enthusiast!! Glad it all checked out! I think it's well worth the asking price!

Rich,
Not usual for a TWR. It's got a Series 2 XJ Saloon instrument conversion. Don't know if that was done at the outset or later.
Looks good sitting in the jaguar showroom. Don't know if it will sell quickly. It's a case of finding the right person who recognises it for what it is.
