Looks genuine to me, seems to have all the right bits.
Be interesting to know what has been done to the engine to cost £15000.

It's not a TWR. TWR stopped enhancing XJSs from the time time JaguarSport was set up in 1988. The new company was set up in the original TWR Bloxham works and the first model they produced was the XJR-S.
So it might be an original JaguarSport XJR-S and it might have been further upgraded by JaguarSport. But it's not a TWR and it wasn't subsequently upgraded by TWR.
it's still a good-looking car and seems in great condition. But IMO, it shouldn't have a TWR numberplate! (Unless it was once owned by Terence Rodney Wilson!)

Thank you, PT. That may clear up a few things. Would def. need to see some paperwork for any work done. So, are we saying it's not worth the asking price.?? Just looking...lol!!

Jon

Hmm
worth the price ?
that depends on two things , how much you will pay and how much they will sell it for ......
each individual car is only worth what someone will pay
i too think its a jaguarsport car, but you will need the VIN and some paperwork to support this, and not every XJR-s was built the same, as you could go with a simple body kit right up to the 6ltr engine with several options in between
if you like it , and you can afford it, ( and its genuine ) then buy it.........
one thing is for sure though , prices on original cars are only going one way , and thats up.......

Thanks BB. Coming into some decent dosh in next 2-3 months. I know..it may be gone...but has been there a while. When I'm in position to not mess them about, and it's still about, I will see it and go over paperwork with a fine toothcomb.
It certainly looks good..and as a JaguarSport XJR-S it'll be a winner.
My decision will have to be a head and heart one..so it's an investment..as the banks can sod off from having my money..but it's something I've waited a long time for, so must be right!
Last couple of weeks swung between the 3.6, 4.0 cabs. and convertibles to the 6.0. I know there are many 5.3 Coupe and convertibles about..and the right mileage/condition could be a decider in that direction. Going to be up to £15k so plenty of scope...before values rise to far!!
Can't wait for the live hunt!!
Cheers,
Jon

Jon,
I'm not sure how much the vendor really knows about the car or about XJSs.
A Jaguar XJR-S, as opposed to a TWR-enhanced car, is much more of a standard proposition. They all came with the same engine, bodykit etc. Early XJR-Ss up to late 89 had 5.3 litre engines. All XJR-Ss after that had 6 litre engines with Zytec ignition (not Zitec!!). So if this was a 1990-built XJR-S there would have been no need for it go back anywhere to get a 6 litre engine with Zytec as it already had that!
If you're interested, I'd get the VIN number from the vendor and email it to me. We may be able to do some investigation for you.

Cheers Paul.
Just looking at the interesting cars at mo...as cash not with me just yet! Guess I don't want to annoy vendors when not in position to follow up, if that makes sense? If the car is still about when I am ok, and it still looks good, I'd be very grateful to pin down the right detail, so many thanks.
Not sure that it's at the right price but we all need a bargaining position. I feel it's a buyer's market as well as seller's, and there's plenty of room for caution..though the 'experts' are saying your money is safer with a good classic than the bank!! I do agree but I would want to be in the strongest position when buying, and feel that will come from yourselves!!
Many thanks again and I will definitely ask for your guidance.
Cheers,
Jon

Wot Paul said
Paul has some resources and was able to successfully pin down a ex-demo XJR-S that started life as a 5.3 V12 and then moved on to become a 6.0 V12 with selected face-lift upgrades before being sold. The VIN indicated pre-facelift left-hand drive American V12 Coupe auto !!!!!
Also, you could always ask the vendor for the Jaguar Heritage Certificate. If none available, you can obtain one now if you have the car's details. Not a cheap option but but worth doing if you are serious about the car...

Thanks Big Cat. It's great to know there's some real knowledge and ability to source the right cars. As stated in my post above..as money isn't there yet, I don't want to bug people till I'm in a good position and won't waste their time. I will be..and if that or a similar car draws me in, then it's all systems go.
I know and believe you have to take your time and study the cars available, the market, the deals around, the help and advice I can get(much appreciated) to track down exactly the right one!! Long-winded? Perhaps, but satisfaction can be guaranteed.
So, I don't want to move on this at this time. As an XJS virgin..not a Jag virgin...there are many lovely cars out there already and I'm learning, with the expertise and knowledge here, what I should be looking for....and finding some things ain't what they purport to be!!!
I have to admit I'm torn between the S coupe and the convertibles, 4.0 or 5.3! Are there 6.0? So much style in them both so...when the hunt begins I'll be on here big-time. I have Swallows near me to maintain the car and they have a very good rep. It will also be dry-stored in a facility near by, so well looked after. So fingers crossed I will find the one.
My main enquiry re this particular car was to establish whether genuine or not. That will have to wait, but it is right at the top of the budget I will be allowing...so must be right!!
Many thanks for all your help so far.

Little update. Checked 11 cars descriptions with DVLA, from Classic Car ads.....
All were what they are advertised as apart from...guess which one..?? Down as XJ-S and that's all.
However, there are 2 XJR-S's there, both of which are on DVLA records as Jaguarsport models.
This is one..

....also advertised as a TWR, which it isn't!
For a high-level summary of the XJS development and the various models see the Model Info page in our XJS Forum website oages.

Yes, thank you, Paul. Finding some really in-depth info on there I certainly was not aware of!! Re the ad..some people seem totally fascinated by the TWR connection to the XJR-S..even if there isn't!!

Some still insist on putting TWR in the equation..
