Hello all,

I am very new to all this, both owning an XJ-S and the Forum, so forgive any newbie mistakes.
The pride of my life is a 1982 V12 HE which is due for an MOT in November. I would like a localish garage to do the MOT, a major service and fix the air-con, without bankrupting me or causing damage to the Beast.

Does anyone have any suggestions or recommendations please.

Thanks

Mark

Sorry I can be of no help at all in recommending a local garage but I just wanted to take this opportunity to welcome you to the forum BB: :D
btw - get the garage to "Fix the air-con without bankrupting me". Ah, such innocence

Hi Mark

I'm the XJS Forum Co-ordinator and have experienced numerous failures of the aircon system over 4 XJS cars I have owned in the past and future.

Guide lines for the repair of XJS Aircon Systems:

1. Main Jaguar dealers are very, very expensive
2. Choose an independent Jaguar dealer or a specialist Air con place that knows the XJS system
3. Ask your chosen place to recharge the air con with a colored die usually yellow
4. Ask them to test for leaks in the whole system i.e
All pipes on system
Condenser by radiator
Evaporator behind dashboard
Evaporator drain tubes
Compressor
Dryer unit by radiator

5. Ask for a quote which can be reduced by fitting non boxed Jaguar parts but are to the same spec

Some people in the club are doing some of the work them selves which will be covered in a future XJS Forum article.

IMPORTANT NOTE: you must get the specialist Air con company to remove any existing gas in your system prior to working on the system

I know of independent aircon specialist in Kent who knows the XJS system very well and has worked on them for many years. Give me a ring if you need any more help on 01689 838737 see also my contact details in JEC magazine
