How very odd?! I haven't visited the Forum for a while and took a quick look earlier on to see what I was missing. It was immediately obvious that there was masses of new material to read (it had been very quiet on here some while ago). Not having much time, I read acouple of new posts and logged out.
Upon revisiting I find that all the previous flags that indicated new material have completely disappeared, and the indicators within the topics have gone. This obviously means that I now haven't any clue as to what is new and what I have already read. There also doesn't seem to be anywhere but here to post comments about the Forum itself.
OK, it's partly my fault for not staying in touch, but it does seem to be distinctly 'user unfriendly'. I'm not particularly keyboard literate so maybe I'm missing something? Cheers, Archie.

You will find all the forums work like that.
I'm probably guessing here but all the info will be logged into a cookie on our computers and if you are like me and delete your cookies after a session all the info will be wiped off.

What I now do is if I ever visit a forum I make sure I read all the posts before I leave.

Hi Archie, I know how you feel. I often log in and see an interesting post but don't have the time to add a comment until another time, by then I've forgotten about it! Shame there isn't a bookmark feature.
The forum also seems to be quite heavily 'technical question' based. I would personally like to see the racing, meet-up and drive-out reports expanded else the forum could end up as purely a question and answer session instead of a members meeting place.
The club has many very influential and knowledgeable XJ-S owners and supporters, I do hope that more of them will contribute.

Thanks for the responses. It was just me being a technophobe then. I will apply myself to catching up.

Pop Rivet - I do so agree with your sentiments and I may repeat them elsewhere, hope you don't mind. It's useful to be able to get answers to queries but there are a lot of places to get info and that's why I spend a lot of time on the JWM XJS Forum - It's definitely a meeting place. Hi Gordon@1962, Just had a thought. I am also on the JWM Forum and that works more positively - i.e. If I visit a Section but don't read all the posts then I'll lose the 'New Posts' flag on it when I return, however the individual posts will still be flagged as new, AND, the Sections I haven't visited will retain their flags until I open them. That's why I was so disappointed with the way this Forum works. Cheers, Archie.

Here's my three penneth for what it's worth
Biggest curent problem with the Forum at present is the low take up by the many, many XJS owners within the JEC........how to rectify that, not sure but poss. demos at major events - see JEC Southern Day thread.
There again perhaps these many, many owners regard it as a talk shop for anoraks.......hey, maybe they're right! That is until their car develops a problem.........
I think that the concentration on technical issues is understandable and OK at present, Small acorns etc.
Ref social, racing, etc. meets. The forum is there for anyone to suggest a social event so use it if you have an idea. Cadwell Park taught me that where you have a fairly small audience to begin with, then you factor in the inevitable "drop-out rate" you are not going to have a huge rally. But those that went had a great day out. Personally I don't think that's a problem, the beauty of the forum organised meet is that it IS informal, personal and "ad-hoc".
Re technical issues why not pm Webman and see if he can work his magic on that front.

I was reading the BB and came across a topic called ''This Forum'' in the General section which had 7 replies and 121 views. As a result of reading the comments from BB members could you please add a new title in the Forum Top index called: ''BB Comments & suggestions for improvements''.
