I cant seem to get my washer jets to stay in position, they do not seem to be able to fix to any thing just sitting in the slot in the wiper motor grill!!! looking at the parts list all I can see are heated jets, there are no wires connected to my jets, question is are they all heated?or was this an option? although I cant see any where they would be connected to. cheers Cliff

The heated jets have blatently obvious electrical connections, so if you can't see any, they've probably been replaced with something else. They jet assembly is a great big plastic rectangle, much bigger than common or garden washer jets.
They clip, somewhat loosely, into the rectangular slots in the grill, but I suspect the lugs that do the clipping might break easily, which would lead to non-functioning washers and an MOT fail, which might be the history of yours. If they were originally heated, you should find the harness lying in the bottom of the plenum chamber.
I expect they're expensive to replace; mine weren't working so I bought a pair of the on-blade jets as fitted to the XJ8 and later cars, as they work exceedingly well on the XJ8, but then realised the problem was a split hose and never fitted them. They were very expensive at the time, but I guess might be a lot cheaper now as more makers upgrade their designs.

hi thanks for reply, after looking at another XJS it seems mine have been replaced at some stage with non Jaguar ones! the problem is they will not stay in one position because they just sit on top of the grill not fixed to any thing

my MOT is due next week and this could cause a problem, also it seems that the correct jets are difficult to source which is probably why it is the way it is

Can you cable tie the hoses to the grill to at least get through the MOT and then sort it properly afterwards?
Although cable ties can sometimes end up as a permanent fix!

LHE7096AA
that is the part number from the heritage parts site for heated washer jets,
or you can ring a parts department in any Jaguar dealership and quote the part number,
there are a few versions, but it should fit the stock grille
only £12.50 each , and they are in stock

I had seen this part as the only one being available but no one seems to know if it is compatible, whether they will actually fit the grill and if the electrical connectors are compatible!!

happycat,
As the part number is a supercession of the previous part number then I would expect that it would fit ok.
Why don't you ask your friendly dealer if he can order up the parts so that you can see if they fit ok? This is something that my dealer does for me quite happily.
Good luck
Paul

Hi Paul the part that is available is not a supercession the list just shows it for the later models ie:94 onwards,i have spoken to three reputed parts suppliers and they cant confirm that they will fit! I cant believe im the only person to have this problem

happycat,
I rang my dealer this morning for you. He said that although it technically isn't a superseded number for those jets, there is only one plenum chamber grille for all facelift cars, so he would assume they would fit, although he doesn't know if the wiring connections are different.
He also suggested, as I mentioned, that your dealer should be prepared to get them in for you and see if they fit. He said that if you want to come to Aylesford in Kent, he would order them up for you with no obligation if they don't fit!

Cliff,
Find yourself a good dealer who will order parts for you and you pay only when you go to pick them up. I think most of them will do that.
The parts dept of my dealer is open until 1pm on Saturday and if you're going to New Romney, I guess you'll be driving within 1 minute of him (J5 of M20). Let me know if you want him to order up the bits!
