As the title has anybody had any experience in using de-humidifier. Electric ones or
non electrical version Unfortunately, I am forced to keep my car under a car cover, as
she does not fit in the garage. Not using her for 5 weeks, I was shocked to find mould growing
in various places. Luckily all is good and I have cleaned it all out. I have never had this
problem before and I have always kept her under a cover. Just wonder if anyone has had any
experience and comments would be much appreciated. Seems to be a lot of different devices
out there.
Cheers
Phil

Re: de-humidifiers
dehumidifiers will only effectively work in a sealed environment , otherwise you will be trying to dry out the whole planet
electric is safer, but always use an RCD on the electric lead , but a desiccant version isn't as good as a full system ,
if left under cover in this very damp season, your better off leaving the windows open ,even if just slightly , the key is air movement rather than drying it out ,
the mould usually comes from our own contamination of the interior, such as seats and steering wheels along with the dash top , so a disinfectant before shutting her away will help , but use something that is safe on all the surfaces

Re: de-humidifiers
I use acouple of mini dehumidifiers (from Maplin) on my boat and they seem to work quite well.
I don't run them constantly as the outlets freeze up so I use a time switch to run them for 12 hours a day.
They don't take a lot of power and have auto shut off when the tank is full. Once I started using them the mould disappeared as it wasn't damp enough for it to thrive.
I'm going to get another one for the XJR-S that I have just bought that seems to have a small pond in the passenger footwell.

Unibond dehumidifier tablets - one for the passenger compartment, one for the boot. Used during the winter season when the dry cat is laid up under an indoor car cover and an outdoor car cover (both breathable) whilst parked-up in my dry garage.

Thanks Vince, I will try leaving the windows open slightly, as you say it could be this adverse
weather. Let us hope that we get a warmer weekend to do a spot of welding at some stage.

Re: de-humidifiers
We use dehumidifiers in the home. We bought a cheap(ish) one that uses desiccant wheel technology. Wonderfully quiet, super efficient at water collection and worked well. Light and portable and available for sub £150. Only drawback is longevity, ours lasted just under two years and they don't appear to be cost effective/repairable items.
We switched to an older style compressor based one. Little bit more noisier and heavier, but draws more moisture out the air faster and is clearly made much more robustly. Also it is repairable and parts are plentiful and cheap. We chose a Ebac one for the dealer support and spares. Bit dearer to buy, but so far much better product all round.
IN home or garage, you will be amazed about how much moisture is in the air......!
