Workshop Manual

Hi all,
My understanding is that the XJ-S did not undergo any major changes down the years save for HE changes and the much later facelift, Since manuals were revised and reissued my query is your thoughts of how much might be missing from a 1984 manual with HE supplement for my '91 pre-facelift convertible, apart from the obvious convertible bit....
There is a fifty quid saving on the cards hence the question,
Cheers

quite a bit of difference
even though the metal panels didn't change, and there were only two engine options, a lot of the fixtures and fittings changed over the years, and especially the engine management for the V12 , Vac lines changed almost yearly with regard to emissions , and then there are the diff ratios etc etc ,
on the other hand, if you want a book that just shows the basics of suspension and body fittings, then it doesn't matter that much
but i would suggest you get the right book for your car,,,,,,,,,,there will be that day you wished you spent £50 to save £1000 because you dont have the right information
pays ur money , takes ur choice

IIRC, You'll be missing the ABS brakes and the Marelli ignition system.
I presume you're aware of the
Jaguar Heritage DVD.

They don't do one for Linux either, but that's what I use.
The DVD on the JH website is a later version than mine (that covered all facelift XJS models, V12 and straight 6), so before you lash out cash, see if you can borrow a copy and test my instructions below.
The files are Adobe Acrobat (i.e. PDF) though with a hierarchy, so you need to
download acrobat reader for MAC, and then open the file "START XJS.pdf" on the DVD, and similar for other files thereon. Not having a PC means you don't get a fancy logo page and some other minor stuff, but otherwise it works OK for me.

Hi Paul,
Thanks.
I do have Acrobat on Mac (I assume) as I can normally open / read pdf files.....my guess is then that the DVD should work.. Trying to borrow one could be difficult so I may mail the store to see if they will do a sale or return if it doesnt work.
Cheers

Cover the stamp and you can borrow mine. My workshop system is Android based, I hoped I could copy the files onto my NAS and view them that way, but they are encrypted to the roof! So means using my work laptop to view them.

Just to let members know that Jaguar Heritage have added an additional range of DVDs to the set. The one for the XJS includes all of the various XJS Parts and service manuals from early cars through to the last facelift cars. It also includes the Supplementy Information DVD content.
It's more expensive than just one of the old DVDs but as it contains the Supplementary Information DVD as well, it's arguably more cost-effective at £50.
The key thing is that it finally has some form of Mac compatibility.
"Mac - OSX 10.4 onward. Users on OSX10.6 (Snow leopard) will need Apple's Rosetta to be installed on all intel based macs. Documents can be viewed but not printed."
Buy it here at:
http://www.jaguarheritage.com/dvds
or get your local dealer to order it in.

Hello all.
If anyone is interested I have an 'as new' service manual (green cover) that covers late XJS 3.6; XJSc 3.6 & XJS 4.0 ltr models akm9063 & supplement akm 9063bb. Total of 184 pages.
If anyone wants to make me an offer - I can bring it to Thorsby if you want to save on postage.
Steve.
