Are hens teath easier to find than a XJS HP Steering hose

Can anyone help me please? Just had a hose made up from me using the existing ends. Problem is that the hose company put another connector just behind the right angle bend in front of the pump. Stopped the hose from leaking and dripping fluid over the hot exhaust which is good. Problem is that try as I might I just cannot get their re-engineered joint to stop weeping. Looking for a new hose if anyone has or knows of one for sale. Much appreciated.

Thanks
Nick

Thanks Rob – Problem is that Jaguar stopped manufacture many years ago and the supply has dried up. You either get one made up of find something second hand. The worry has to be that over time this is going to become an increasing frustrating problem.

Manners are showing a price and a 2 day delivery, however from bitter experience they usually cannot supply, worth a call though if you have not already done so. I also know David Marks has a 4.0 on an L in for breaking, quite what is left I'm not sure, again worth a call??

Hi Nick,
Have just had a look in the Parts book to remind myself what the pipe looks like.

Looks straight forward to me. Do you have Pirtek supplier or a Hydraulics firm in your area?
I'm sure they would do you an exact replica.

Jaguar price for this pipe used to be scandalous

Just gazing in the Parts book RTC 9888CC Sept 1988 XJ- S HE

Power Steering pipes METRIC CAC3654

If available -- Perhaps cut the flared ends, put on old ends -re flare. Well it's a thought

CAC3654 also no longer available.

I'm not aware of any independent supplying pattern XJS HP PAS hoses. I might be wrong but I suspect Manners are just quoting the standard Jaguar part which of course they have to buy from Jaguar Classic Parts and as we know is not available.

I've used Pirtek before to manufacture an unavailable Range Rover PAS hose. Even if the XJS hose has unique ends, they can often use your existing ends to make up one.

Good luck

Agree with Paul about Pirtek. Branches nationwide.

Many is the time where I`ve had to obtain new hydraulic hoses for both my own and customers marine transmissions. Pirtek were always the boys for the job. I`d take the time expired pipe and all fittings to them and they would make me up a new pipe in a jiffy often re using pipe ends if serviceable. Prices were very reasonable. Highly recommended company who specialise in heavy industrial plant applications such as diggers and dumper trucks.

Great stuff and thanks guys. I’ve located a good second hand one and am having a new one made up using my ends. Thanks again for all your contributions.

I’ve got the low pressure pipes and will replace these as well at the same time.

Re: Are hens teath easier to find than a XJS HP Steering hose

A few years ago I had the hydraulic system on my V12 XJS Convertible give out on me just before the Entente Cordiale trip. 3 days before to be exact. Following Ken Jenkins advice I got hold of a low pressure hose at reasonable cost from Jaguar. The HP one had to be made some- where (I think it was Pirtek") because Jaguar no longer do them. I do remember they used their own end fittings. Anyway the upshot was that all was well after the rebuild of the steering hydraulics and Ken advised me to use "Lucas steering gear oil" instead of the Jaguar stuff because of increased body and it has not leaked again since.

I did a piece in the "Enthusiast" last year describing the exercise.
