Should I enter Littlecote "Pride & Joy"?

Dear All
I'm considering putting my Celebration Convertible into the Pride & Joy competition at Southern Day and I'd appreciate your views.
For those of you who've seen the car (at the Gaydon Forum run earlier this year) what do you think? Is it good enough?
Does anyone have experience of these events? How do I prepare the car? What is expected by the judges?
Regards
David

David ,
I too have been ' lobbied ' to enter my own XJS into the Pride and Joy event , but i have decided not to at this time, mainly because the car would need to be parked with the other entrants for the competition somewhere else on site, and i was keen to Stay on the JEC stand/forum stand , the other thing is i made my car for me, and for other people to look at and enjoy if they wish , but not to be ' judged ' for competitions, as there is always a subjective view of each car and the level of condition , a person with a limited budget may lavish all his time on his car , but never get it to the level of someone with bottom less pockets and a nearby garage to do the work for them , so i feel the competition was unequal in my opinion , that and you have to pay to enter ???
with regard to your car
yes, its good enough , so why not, but its your choice
preparation would need to be to the 'Nth' degree , with everything needing to be cosmetically clean , but an obvious ' runner ' so some wear expected ,
looking forward to seeing everyone there on the day ,
BB

As one of the "judges" for Pride & Joy at Littlecote I thought I would give you a little bit of insight. P & J as you may know gets divided into different classes, usually by age depending on the number of total entries.
We look at the overall condition of the car - but none of us are technical experts in any particular model so BB is right is is a subjective judgement in the end and my winning car may not be someone else's! Overall though this is not concours we are looking for a well loved car that the owner clearly looks after fastidiously; we review all the bodywork, the interior, engine bay, wheels and tyres - we also take into account the car's average annual mileage over the last couple of years. This is because the essence of P&J is that these are cars that should be used on a regular basis. At Northern Day I was judging the post 1990's and the "current" models - and the winner of the 1990's was an S Type that was doing over 12000 miles a year - it was the owners everyday and only car.
You've got nothing to lose by entering, we always give feedback if required on where we see potential for improvement.
The overall P&J Car of the Day at Northern Day was a Mk X so there are no age barriers that should hold you back.
Hope that helps...
Regards

Hi David
I'm sure your car would do well in the "Pride and Joy", I think the question you need to answer is "what do I want to do on the day?"
Since you'll be with your car most of the time do you want to be in a competition with other models or would you prefer to be in with other XJS's talking XJS talk?
For me, the latter would be the case but then, maybe you'd have fun with other P&J entries?
Either way I'm see you'll have a great day out!

Just a further clarification to the last post - there is no "XJS reserved parking area" at Littlecote; in the Forum area there will only be room for 2 cars at maximum so unless you are going to be in the Forum area, your parking options will be General Jaguar parking or with P& J.
Another point to note is that judging begins on P&J at 11 a.m and should finish around 1 pm ish - and you will only need to be with your car up until it has been judged, after that you can mix and mingle as much as you wish.

Only two cars on the XjS Forum stand?

There will only be space for 2 cars on each of the Forum areas ( a consequence partly of having so many models now to cater for) - same as for Northern day - space is even more at a premium at Littlecote than at Newby, and we struggled to get everyone into the Forum area there.
Next year at Thoresby, the clubs anniversary will coincide with the XJS anniversary if I am not mistaken and then there will be dedicated rows of parking for the XJS fraternity....

Vince,
On behalf of Rob, who is indisposed at present, i can confirm that your car is one of the designated XJSs for the Forum display. Of course that is assuming that you still don't wan't to go and win your prize in the P&J!? As you know,l think that your car would be extremely well received in this class!
Rob will sort out passes etc in due course.
