Well I'm sure most of you will have heard the budget and how its going to effect large cars?
If not go here > http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/a ... ge_id=1770
Gordon Brown wants to penalise the 'gas guzzlers' but where does that leave us Jaguar owners who's cars do 18-23 to the gallon but are only used at weekends?
If my car does 20 to the gallon 2 days a week and the family car does 40 to go the gallon 7 days a week who is the worst offender!

Its about time the classic car fraternity rammed our message home to the ignoramus!!

Hey, read it again: http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/nol/shared/bsp ... t_2320.pdf

Specifically Page 157:
"reforms to vehicle excise duty (VED) to sharpen environmental
incentives including reducing the rate to zero for cars with the very lowest
carbon emissions and introducing a new top band for the most polluting new cars."

It's only *new* cars that are affected!

Hell, take the V12 to work every day, you know it makes sense. ;-)

Thanks for the 310 page report. he he

Well if it's NEW cars then great. :P
But until we see the sliding scale in full I'm going to air on the side of caution.

Saying that I'm keeping my Jaguar come hell or high water :!:

Doesn't that just highlight the stupidity of their policy? How many people would be deterred from owning their car of choice, by the thought of an extra £45 a year on road tax?
Cheers, Archie.

There's nothing stupid about the policy Archie, it's going to generate loadsa £££££'s that they'll be able to waste in so many 'green' ways.......Like, bombing Iraq for instance!

The sliding scale only affects cars registered on or after March 2001 but don't think you've got away with it if your car is older. He's stuck another fiver on everyone else's VED too

Not only is Gordon looking for the top job, he want's to make sure he's got a good pension to look forward too once he f*cks up and gets kicked out.

Sadly, I think that even if 'two Jags' prescott was chancellor, we'd still get stitched up regarding our choice of wheels....

Drivers use fuel in two ways, either having a thirsty engine or driving more miles. Either way, they already pay fuel duty levied on every litre of fuel purchased. I've always campaigned that there should be no road tax, just an adjusted fuel duty. That seems to be a much fairer way to me, burn fuel and you pay, save fuel and you don't. But of course it isn't really about the environment, its about raising general tax

I've found a web site that clears everything up.
It shows all the payments and when a car has to be registered to qualify.

Thanks to Jag-lovers web site for the info.
