Windscreen Wiper Direction

Can anyone throw any light on why some XJS models have the wipers to the left of the screen and some to the right. Appears to be no rhyme or reason to it, but would be interested to find out.

some have Lucas motors and gearbox's , and some have Electrolux ones,
the latter was fitted from 1988/9 onwards, but not exclusively
be careful buying replacements, as the wiring is different, as is the control stalk in the car for each type

You're absolutely right, there is no rhyme or reason to it!
Not by model, engine size, build date or anything else.
Whichever motor came out of the parts bin was bolted onto the car!
Strange, but true
