just one of those silly questions!

This may sound a silly question but after owning a 6.0 for nearly 4 years no one has given a decent answer.
On the back lining to the boot, just above the battery housing and to the right of the spare wheel there is an elastic strap. What is this for? I assumed, wrongly, that it was for the tool kit but the one I have now obviously doesn't fit.
Any ideas?
Look forward to hearing some comments....

Would this be the strap thats supposed to go round the battery by any chance?
silly question...

Hi Jon,
No, the elasticated strap is only about 6 inches long and is probably about 8 inches above the battery in the back board the boot. I'm just wondering if it's to hold the owner's manual in as I have something similar in my XJ8.
Seems strange to have the manual in the boot though.

Hi Kevin
I have a 6 ltr XJS convertible which has no elastic strap as the space is used by the hydraulic pump to open and close the hood.
However I do not have any other straps in the boot. I would suspect the strap is for the car handbook as the more recent Jaguars have such a strap to hold the handbooks etc in the boot. This would also be a safer place in terms of security of the service record book.

Hi Norman,
Thanks for the confirmation. I will start using it for what it was meant for instead of keeping the bits in the bedside cabinet!
