hi everyone,
Could anybody point me in the right direction to where I could buy a cover for my xjs jag, (to cover full car) at a reasonal price, the cars kept in the garage.
I am going to be working on her during the winter months = front suspention/steering etc and would like to keep the dust off her. dont want to use old sheets.
Also, I am going to fit the twin headlamp conversion to her anybody know where the best place to get the kit from?
cheers Wullie

Wullie,
I cannot remember where I fot the cover from, its indoors only, has the Jag logo across the front, someplace in Yorkshire.
SNG Barratt for the twin head lamp conversion for the facelift model, about £450. If your original lamps are in good nick, they'll part ex them, but haggle with them over the price.

Hi Wullie,
I am glad your mate likes his X-type. It's a great car, probably Jaguar's best kept secret. There's a widely held belief that it's a Mondeo in disguise (my neighbour used to call it a Ford in a cat-suit

), but it's really a sports car in disguise. With four wheel drive and the 3 litre engine, it flies and corners like it's on rails - it's the new Mark 2. That engine by the way has a three stage inlet manifold and continuously variable valve timing. I bet the dealer never mentioned that to your mate! (I only found out when I started reading the repair manual). It is a totally different beast to the XJS, a sprinter rather than a tourer, but much more practical than a Lotus Elise

(sorry, end of X-type sales pitch

)
I have thought about converting to gas, but the payback period for the mileage I do is about 4 years. I would be interested to know if your mate noticed any drop in performance compared to petrol and how much boot space he had to give up for the tank.
Cheers, Glenn.

Hi Glenn
Your neighbour's just jealous, mondeo, dont think so, apart from sharing the same design floor pan it's nothing like a mondeo, the aston martin has the same floor pan as an XJS nobody call's my XJS an astin martin, I wished.
The mate at work say's no difference in power and he say's about 1.5 to2 years will pay the cost back about £1800, he intends to keep the car for a while anyway. he put a 75 ltr dounut tank in place of the space saver, stood the space saver up made MDF boards and covered them with same color carpet looks good and still got a reasonable amount of space left.
I see a nylon cover in ebay for £30 think I will just order it.
cheers wullie

My XJ-S has British Leyland marked on many parts, nobody's yet called it a Marina (although sometimes it is All-agro)

Nigel / Glenn
I spotted a pair of twin lamps in ebay, unfortunally they are seal beam lamps which iv'e been told are even worse than the original. must be halagen h4 bulb type only. they are for pre face lift model I have post face lift model, don't think they fit anyway. they might do someone else though.

Pre facelift will not fit the post face lift.
SNG Barratt have the twin lamps made for them, dont think that twinlights for RHD were ever made by Jaguar.
You should get a good price for the old lamps if in good condition, they are very hard to find now, Jaguar no longer supply them.
I checked on the car cover I have, its made by
Specialised Car Covers, see
www.carcoversuk.com
Price about £155 plus vat

Hi Wullie,
Thanks for the info on the gas conversion. I might think about it again. Looks like the price has fallen quite a bit. It was about £2.5K last time I looked into it.
Ref twin headlight conversions, I am not a fan. I prefer the original ovals. A friend has fitted the twins to his '87 XJS. The bits were sourced from the USA with the useless sealed beam units, but fitted with H4 units from an XJ40 I think. It makes the car look more aggressive and with 4 main beam lamps does throw a lot of light on the road, but I'm still not sure they really look as good as the ovals.
At the risk of dragging this thread back to car covers,
Have you seen this one? Currently less than 30 quid.

Hi Wullie,
I just found the thread about the twin headlights. It was XJ40 units. My guess it they also fit the post facelift hardware, but that's only a guess.
