Hi,
Has anyone else had an MOT "advisory" on the rear lens becoming opaque? (Brake lights).

I've started looking for replacements and winced at the potential costs!. Is there a quick and easy fix?..

I'm thinking high discharge bulbs?,

Hello Ktclm06,

It's worth checking if it just needs a clean inside? Normally plastic lens go lighter, not darker.

Mmmmm.....that was on the list but hadn't got round to it yet. Once flagged up and discussed with others it was thought to be "not uncommon" hence not really gone down that route......yet!
Cheers

I have had a couple of advisories on the front lens on my Daimler. It's the original and it has taken 170K miles of punishment and has become "cloudy". Someone has mentioned t-cut, but I don't think that this would work on a glass lens? I'm wondering if a compound like fast-cut might smooth-out the lens surface?

Inside my facelift's rear lamps there are black reflectors. I obviously use the word "reflector" advisedly. Is my car missing something? Not that it's ever been mentioned in an MOT.

If yours is similar, I wonder if a spray of aluminium paint over the black plastic might make up for any loss of transmission through cloudy plastic.

I thought that was how they were meant to be. I’ve had 3 XJSs and they were and are like that. Never been a problem.

Thanks Nick but these are noticably dimmer than some other cars I have seen, as they say "I have a problem.....!"
