Hmmmm, what are you looking to chip - straight six or V12?
With a petrol car, I have found that a chip alone is limited. A chip is useful on a fuel injected car once throttle bodies, exhausts, cams, heads have been altered.

1988 v12 5.3 XJS-C. Have been asked if I have chipped it. Some say greatest thing some say if you want to keep your engine DON'T. Just inquiring.

The V12 will be up to the job of most mods - but what is this chip changing? Not sure what improvements you would realistically see with a chip alone.

Is the extra performance worth the extra insurance premium?
How much faster can you actually go in todays appalling traffic on todays appalling roads with todays appalling drivers?
Unless you are 17 of course then that is completely different.......
Have you considered nitrous oxide injection?

Spend some time at Roger Bywater's AJ6 Engineering web site. There's everything you could possibly want to know about tuning the AJ6 and V12 engines, written by one of Jaguar's engine development team. The background information about the tuning options he sells is fascinating stuff.

As far as I recall, chipping isn't really a good idea, as it will probably eventually lead to holed pistons - basically Jaguar wanted a powerful and reliable engine, so why wouldn't they choose the best compromise?

You are right Paul.
I think the mantra of AJ6 Engineering is that before you do anything make sure that it breathes right; sort out the induction and exhaust before you even think of going any further.
It doesn't matter how much your heart is pumping if your lungs don't work and you can't fart properly!

Apart from the tuning trumpets, my XJ-S has all of the AJ6 engineering modifications. This includes the super enhanced ECU. The most impactful mod you can do to a standard HE V12 or 6.0 in my opinion (and limited experience) is the TT-Extractor exhaust with the enhanced ECU (required for the fuelling change). Wider throttle bodies and revised air-intakes make less of an impact. For handling, Koni Red adjustable shocks all round and Harvey Bailey Engineering front and rear anti-roll bars make a big difference. I am still running on 15" lattice wheels though, as I like some comfort and did not want to lose the Jaguar glide.

I would agree with the other posters comments around getting the basics right first.

A manual gearbox conversion to 5 or 6 speed (with a diff change) would offer a big performance uplift.

Nitrous Oxide is possible - the Wizards of Noz offer a double V12 kit that'll provide up to 200bhp. Just not sure if its worth it unless you are a Santa Pod regular.

Modern chips where they are reprogrammed tend to benefit petrol or diesel turbo-charged cars, unless fuelling changes are required to support other mods.

Hope this helps. Rich

Getting the answers and as my Jag is running very well I will be leaving well enough alone!
Had to ask and get some ammo for the next guy at a car show that say's you got to do it.
Thank's for the input.
