Not that Rubbish really

Postby masterb » Sat Apr 03, 2010 9:59 am

Tried to log in as normal this morning, and wondering if anyone else suffered  the same problem.
As in i was locked out, unless i forcibly filled out a registration.
I then spent 30 mins stuck, wasting time, not being able to check if any new posts had come up, and not being able to get on with other things.

Not Impressed with a setup like this where i am strong armed into doing something.
If members on here choose not to want there cars registered then that is there prerogative.
Why a simple reminder couldnt be sent, requesting that member participate, rather than being bullied into doing something is beyond me.

Not Happy.

mrb39,

I'm not sure what was the problem that you suffered or why you were stuck for 30 mins. If you drop me an email briefly explaining what happened, I'll see if I can get to the bottom of it with webman.

However, on the matter of car registration, I have to say that I disagree with you. As a car club, it is absolutely critical that we understand the statistics of what cars we've got, segregated by model. It is the only way that the club can have an insight into what types of products and services should be provided to members both now and in the future. I would hope that members would fully appreciate that.

The JEC has developed enormously over the last 20 years and now has over 17,000 members. Sadly, over that time we have lost sight of the statistics of the really key element - the cars. 2 years ago, our estimate of how many XJSs we had was somewhere between 1000 & 5000. And it's the same problem for the other models. That's not good enough to be able to work out what services are required. That's why we continue to work hard on getting a full population of the register. And why I can't agree that it should be a voluntary element to register the car. If we join a car club, presumably we should want to share our car details and give the club the best chance to provide the services we want.

It should only take 5 minutes to register a car. If members have a problem or don't know how to find their VIN, codes etc, as I always say, please just get in contact with me. As with the other volunteers who give their time free of charge, I'm just trying to do what I think is best to move the club forward.

Tks for taking the time to read this. I hope your Easter improves from here on in!

MrB

I too had a new screen on log-in, I employed the "just keep clicking till it lets you in" method - worked a treat!

Sorry that you had so much hassle, hope it hasn't spoilt your day too much. :?

Hi Guy's

Paul I agree with all you have said, however why when we first register on the forum are the details of our cars not mandatory fields then everyone would do it at the beginning.

I also feel a location town or at least county should also be required

all very good if you own and run a Jaguar car, but what if your a paid up member who just wants to be around and dont own a Jag ??

i personally think it should be optional and not mandatory to give details of your vehicle and or location, and members who do not wish to give details should not be penalised in any way

Michael,

As BB has pointed out, there are members of the JEC who don't necessarily own a Jaguar, or they may be just thinking of owning one when they join the club.

That's why it would be wrong to make registering a Jaguar compulsory.

I agree that it would be wrong to ask people for details of their non-Jaguar cars. I'm sure, as a club, that we've never suggested that.

In the end, "we'll get the club that we deserve." If people don't want to register their cars, that's fine. It's the same with aspects such as date of birth, location etc. If the club isn't given all the information it needs by the members, it would seem inappropriate to criticise the club for then not providing the appropriate products and services.

Back to changing the wheel for the puncture I've found on my XJ8!

Happy Easter, everyone!

i will add,

that i have registered my car , and was one of the first , but that was because i wanted to , to be forced to could turn away more people than would be desired ,

maybe a header in the registration page pointing out the benefits of adding members cars to the list ?

Happy Easter holidays

not that rubbish really

Postby masterb » Sat Apr 03, 2010 7:26 pm

Have to say that now that i am not in a rush, like this morning, that i don't have a problem registering.
However i would not want it to be compulsory, the main problem i had this morning was a lack of time.
I just wanted a quick look for new posts, before i got stuck into the days chore's .
However i was faced with this registration business, my main prob being that i could not remember my password and was stuck for ages, getting more annoyed by the second.

Perhaps i had woke up on the wrong side of the bed, but i felt a bit like i was being strong armed into completing this thing.
Personally don't mind doing it, but prefer it to be at a time that suits me, and have the choice of whether to or not.

The main point i wanted to make is, that it should be the individuals prerogative as to whether they want to register there car or not.
Ok I'm done now sorry 2 make a fuss. :D
