Demonstrator.... Good thing?

So I was going through the service history for my car today to dig out the old MOT to get 13 months on the new one, when I came across a letter from Jaguar to the dealership saying " Thank you for advising us that you have registered the vehicle as a demonstrator"

The letter is dated two months after it was first registered.

Does this give me any extra bragging rights, or as I suspect , just mean it was 'ragged' around surrey as a dealers loan car for the first few years of it's life?

Iain,

There are lots of cars that were either first registered to Jaguar or alternatively run on trade plates as genuine demonstrators / display cars before finding their first owner. Unless you can contact the original dealer and find some sort of records, it's really difficult to know what it was used for.

I also hear from lots of owners who think that a car first registered to Jaguar cars must be of historical significance - wrong.

One insight is to look at how long there is between date of manufacture and date of first registration. I have seen at least one car with a 2-year gap. My own car has an 8 month gap and was apparently used as a display car. But it could have been running out on trade plates.

Assuming your car is in the Register let me know it's registration and I'll tell you pretty accurately when it was made (assuming you don't already know?).

Hello Paul, May I butt in and ask if your records can be opened for my car, registered Sept 1994 but obviously hanging aroung waiting for a buyer or something as it has an AJ6 engine. It was supplied by Sturgess in Leicester. Reg. M120HFP. Thanks, Paul.

Hello Paul

Yes it is on the register, my car is K23 YPE, the reg it has had from new.

From the spec of my car I think it is a 1993.25MY but I have been wrong before!

First registered 15/5/93 and the letter is dated 28/6/93 to Paladin Jaguar in Reigate.

To be honest it is just out of curiosity and I don't think it has any historical significance at all I have just seen demonstrators advertised as it is a good thing and never understood why, then I found out that mine is!

Also, referring back to another thread from years ago. Could you see if it was me that entered TXI 5157 or if the new owner put it on the register. (It was long time and I can't remember!) I know it is still taxed and insured so must be out there somewhere, I would love to find that car again!

Sorry to go off topic.

Demonstrator can be a good thing. My Citroen was one of the first of it type and spent the first year being taken to dealerships around the country for sales chaps to familiarise themselves.

It was loaded with many extras like A/C, 4 sunroofs, alloy wheels, CD etc and had only covered 4000 miles before I bought it. Pristine condition and completely clean even underneath. And a vast saving over a new one!
