Knowing how much these cars rot (as I have one myself) this will need a very close look at.
Rust where the rear bumper meets the valance will mean the valance will be shot, body kit will more than likely have been fitted for a reason ie sills rotted. Floors will more than likely be rotten also jacking points.
If you wanted to get it back to original spec you'd need to find the gold dust rubber bumpers. Car has been resprayed without covering the stone guards so indicates a quick once over job, inner and outer rear arches will need a lot of work.
Interior has been / is very damp (steering wheel mould / keys rusty)
Looks like a younger owner with it having a body kit and blacked rear lights.
Anything can be sorted though (at a price)
BUT if I didn't have my XJS or it was nearly finished - i'd go for it as at the moment it's well worth it if you can sort it yourself

It was me! Yep I am that stoopid!

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1979-JAGUAR-XJS-A ... 286.c0.m14

Someone outbid me, I lost it by 20 quid, there is a god!

This one rings many alarm bells - blacked out rear lights, gearbox issues, non standard bodykit - all say ragged to death to me, and then there is the mould from storage, just as there is no smoke without fire, there is no mould without rust!

I also really don't like welding, and when I have to crack out the mig or tig I like to have the job done over a weekend. On my old 3.6 I welded in two new inner wings and radius arm mounts and my current 4.0 needed a sill closing panel when I bought it (With a brand new MOT!),all done in weekend chunks.

Hats off to you guys - BB, Mr Ian et al who can keep working on the same car for 5yrs I have the deepest respect for you but I have a far too short attention span!

Yes I too had that yellow one on my watch list, not to buy but just to see how the auction went. That was far better a proposition than the white one as from what I remember was far more 'complete' and original. That's the main thing to look for, 'repairs' are ok if done well but if botched like mine was you've not only got to do the repair but you've also got to undo the rubbish they've put in too.

I've no idea, they're off the Flickr site.
I wouldn't mind the rear panel off the 2nd photo though, its almost better then mine. How about turning this thread into the 'abandoned xjs' thread?
