I bought my 95 Turquoise Celebration Coupe at Clarkes. They know these cars iside out and how to spot the good, bad and ugly, The best thing is that Dan and Dave, a Father and son team are genuinely passionate about the XJS and they probably have more decent examples than anyone.

I have had my car for a year without a single mechanical issue. It is at Clarke's right now for some preventative stuff and a few bits of minor bodywork.

Downsides are that they do charge a premium for their cars but if you want peace of mind then that is the price.

I'll let you know more about how I feel when they quote for my bodywork.
