Just wondering what other cars could offer possible donor parts for xjs's?
First that sprung to mind was the xj40, xj6 and daimlers , what parts can you transplant from these cars?
Is the 3.2 engine in some of these the same block a 3.6 ltr AJ6 engine but with a smaller bore?
Any shared suspension,brakes etc?

Then what about other makes of cars? i think i am right in saying that the xjs flat panel air filter is in some or all truimph tr7's and some stags.

Anyone grafted bits from other models?

XJS sills can be replaced with the non genuine XJ swb sills (were 1/4 of the price) as long as your sill top is ok, just cut to fit length, numberplate lights look like the same as the old mini ones just clipped to hinged pieces. Obviously all XJs will have a lot of interchangeable components. I think Aston Martin DB7 has the same rear suspension cage ??? not that that would be used though

JL has a Parts Interchange Guide It's not exhaustive by any means, but is a start.

IMO one of the problems of the JEC forums is that all the different models aren't under one umbrella. Having a 3.6, there could be information on engines and gearboxes under XJ40 and suspension under SeriesIII saloons. Facelift XJS's use the same engine as the X300, etc. etc.

Up to '87 the air con unit in XJ6/XJ12 is the same.

The front suspension subframe and rear suspension cage are interchangeable, as far back as SI XJ. Although not all the suspension components are, some can be used.

As mentioned before here somwhere the front brake pads are the same as a renault master van.

The only ones I know are that ;-
the 5CU airflow meter was used on just about every petrol land rover in the 1990's - defender, disco and the range rover.

None of the bearings are bespoke, - if you look at the outer race there is a number etched in either CZxxxx or Zxxxx or ZZxxxx armed with this you can get them at any engineering outlet.

Jaguar also never seemed to design any new parts as the model progressed, mine has XJ40 bits (i.e. indicator repeaters) all over it!
So I guess looking at current and older XJ saloons would be the first place to start looking.
