I am a relative novice with regards to the XJS, in particular to the 4.0 Celebration. I understand that it shares the same underpinnings as the Aston Martin DB7 ?

Also is it the case that the wiring loom was upgraded and if so can anyone advise of any other improvements or otherwise that were made.

I have owned my present car since March 2009, and touching wood, have found it to be reliable in all respects with no major nigles and wow does it turn heads.

If you get hold of the XJS supplement CD from the JDHT (JHM 1123) you will see that a separate electrical guide was published every year from 1988 to 1996.

From 1994 the 4.0 and 6.0 were given separate books. Each guide is about 60 pages long. And, yes there were changes every year. In fact by the end the changes were coming so thick and fast that some component and lay out alterations didn't last a full model year.

Some, doubtless well intentioned, of those who post here, appear completely oblivious to these multiple changes, so treat advice from someone with a different model year to yours with caution, there are several examples of complete rubbish being posted about facelifts by people who have clearly never seen one.

The CD mentioned above has a list of the modifications from 1988 to 1996 but as this is covered by 20 different leaflets, some of which run to more than 30 pages, you really need to study them individually to get a feel for the changes.

Hi Nelson. Congrats on buying a great car, I'm pleased to hear that it's as trouble free as it should be and boy - YES - does it turn heads :P

The AM DB7 uses XJS underpinnings which pre-date the Celebration. I believe the engine uses the 3.6 block bored out with a special AM head plus supercharger. Suspension and floorpan are I believe all XJS with AM mods.

There were many changes over the years to the XJS, in fact it's a study in constant development. I expect you're more interested in the overall picture than trawling through mod. sheets. There are several good books which cover this including the Haynes "You and Your XJS" and other books, most of which can be found on e-Bay. All are worth reading as each seems to pick out details or have pictures which are missed by the others.

Al - I hope that I am not one of the guilty parties posting complete rubbish about the facelift cars, but if I am then I ask your forgiveness

Thanks for the responses so far guys, it is much appreciated. I have been a jaguar fan since my late teens, (I am now 57) hence nelson1952.

In the early days me and my mate would spend weekends showing off in his 1964 'E' Type 3.8, I also had the fortune to borrow F.O.C. a 4.2 'E'Type for the weekend from a client of mine. I was driving an Austin 100 which I gave in exchange ! ! well I thought it was a good swap.
My other Jaguars are as listed above and all have given great pleasure, one day I will get around to telling their stories.

As for the XJS I think its one of Jaguars unsung heroes. Their day will come.
