Interesting 3.6 Manual up for auction at Matthewsons

I keep an eye on the auctions to see what interesting vehicles crop up and this one caught my eye:

It's got a whopping estimate on it, and it's not the original low mileage rarity that it initially seems.

It's odd that it's got a 1977/8 year number plate on it and someone has painted the tailgate and chrome tail light inserts black to make it look like a pre-HE. It's also got some really 'interesting' refurbished wheels on it, as well as what looks like a new paint job and the wrong steering wheel.

It'll be interesting to see what it goes for on the 18th March - if it sells at all.

Interesting modifications. Not at all to my taste but, hey, we can all do what we like to our own cars!

The gunmetal Kents sit really uncomfortably for me, and the seats are quite a personal choice!

Can't see it being bought by a real XJS aficionado, unless it's a really sound base and they want to return it to standard spec.

But with RS500 Sierras going for £500k+, who knows?!

I see that as an £8k car. Prices plus 7.5% buyers premium, 8.5% if online. No MOT so can't just drive away.

It was created as a 'homage' to the Pre HE, although that's a bit hollow without a V12! Here is what Car & Classic had to say previously:
