A minor victory - I wonder how many more there are?

I'm feeling very pleased about a very minor victory and am left wondering how many similar opportunities there are - could be a rich vein of info for magazine articles - even maybe a letter of the month type thing ;-)

My car came to me with a broken catch on the centre console, meaning that the lid doesn't click shut as it should - yes I know this is a very minor thing, but hear me out!

A quick check at David Manners and SNG Barratt, shows that the part is available for over a tenner:

https://www.sngbarratt.com/English/#/UK ... NGS(13567)

I know it's only a tenner plus postage, but it just seemed like a lot of money for a tiny bit of plastic and metal. I'm afraid I'm the type of person who, on principle, would rather have a non-clicking centre console lid than have to pay over the odds to repair it! I wondered if the fact that it's a 'Classic Jaguar' part meant that I was being asked to pay through the teeth for it, so I began to look elsewhere to see if it was a part used in other British cars of the era.

Sure enough, a bit of cross-checking and part number searching, lead me to this eBay listing:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/323354008056

It's also an MG part and when you buy it for your classic MG, it costs £3.48.

Yoink!

Does anyone else have any examples of this type of thing? - hopefully with much more expensive or hard to find parts with a similar percentage reduction?

Hi SimonR,
Not XJS related but I found out the reversing sensors on the XJ8 are the same as the ones used on certain Renault/Citroen models.
See thread here:

Still working fine today :D .
Take care.

I do know that the indicator/sidelight assemblies on an MGB are the same as an (in period) Aston Martin V8.
