A-post seal

Postby AlanF82 » Sat Feb 21, 2009 6:41 pm

The rubber lip on the top of the A-post seal of my 1989 V12 Convertible is buckled and gets pushed behind the glass as the window rises, rather than overlapping the top edge. This is very good for letting in water... :)

I have tried to obtain a new seal from Jaguar Classic Parts but the only item they have (correct part number) does not have the lip.

Has anybody else had this problem and found a solution - or perhaps can advise a source for the correct part? :?

Thanks, Alan.

A-post seal

Alan,

Do you mean the 3-part seals that fit along the top and back side of the window - BEC 25524?

If so, this part was redesigned for the later convertibles and is supposed to be an improved design. The early part numbers were superseded to the new design part number. The whole seal arrangement differs on later cars with a 3-part sandwich arrangement differing from the original 5-part sandwich setup.

If this is the seal set that you're talking about, then it might explain why it looks different from your original design. Unfortunately my own car is parked elsewhere at present so I can't get a photo for you. If you could see another vehicle, it might help you.

A leak at the top of the A-seal is quite common on XJSs. Jaguar even produced a technical bulletin on how to cure the known water seal problems. It's included in the JDHT "XJS Supplementary Information" CD.

Let me know if you've still got problems, I could reproduce some of the diagrams if that might help.

Good luck

A-post seal

Hi Paul

Thanks for your prompt reply - sorry for my tardy response, things have been hectic in non-Jaguar ways!

I have a photo of the seal and also the replacement, which has part number 27BEC9676. However, I don't know how to add into this message - is it possible? As I say, the replacement part has a different top edge and doesn't seal over the window. Maybe I have to change more parts?

I know the technical bulletin you refer to and managed to buy a copy at Stoneleigh, but unfotunately it doesn't help this particular issue.

If you have any more suggestions, I would be grateful.

Best regards

Alan
