Lattice wheel patio table

Postby paulfrost88960 » Mon Oct 26, 2020 1:23 pm

What do you think guys? I had an extra spare wheel so an engineer friend of mine made a stand out of a parasol stand and riveted an aluminium support onto it. The wheel just bolts on through spacers he milled for me. It can be easily unbolted if i need to use it again. I intended having wider glass but that would have been £60 more so i didn't! Roll on spring so i can use it!

Paul,

Looks great! Well done!

How is the glass attached to the top, or is it just loose?

I want to do something similar with 2 items I have - A genuine Jaguar Forumula One car Front Rim, and an XJ220 Rear Tyre. I've been procrastinating for years trying to think of the best way to do them! You've inspired me!

Cheers

Paul, yes it's taken me a while to get round to it but i'm glad i did. At the moment glass is just resting on it as i'm not leaving it on over winter. Originally i was going to have holes through the top into the wheel holes. However my firnd did such a good job milling the spacers in the wheel that i've now changed my mind and am going to use double sided sticky tape or foam.

V12smig.....neither would mine, she would have accepted it however as just one of my (many) foibles. Unfortunately she died last year after 35 years of fantastic marriage. I still wish she was here to laugh at it!

Paul,

How about extending the wheel nut parts upwards or the hub centre cap, and then mounting the glass on suction cups at those points? I've seen similar use of that approach on other wheel tables.

Cheers

Yes that's what i was going to do by extending the bolts upwards, but it looks good as is. In any case i don't think you can drill tempered glass without special equipment which again would have put up the price.
