I have fitted a Momo steering wheel and reduced the size of the foot brake pedal in my 1989 V12 convertible - this now allows me to fit my 6'5" frame more comfortably in the car. With this size wheel, I cannot easily see the outer edges of the speedo and rev counter and plan to fit the instrument panel style from an XJ12 (I picked up an XJ12 dash from Beaulieu last September). I saw the following pic in the gallery:

and would appreciate any advice from those who may have experience of such a conversion. To be honest, I also prefer the style of the XJ12 cluster more than the barrel style instuments.

Thanks in anticipation :?

Hi There,

Thats my instrument panel and I have been reliably informed from David Marks that this was a conversion offered by a company called Autostar?
Apparently a six dial pod was preffered by some customers over the barrel gauges and they made a conversion kit to suit. The dials were from other models in the Jaguar range.I have no idea whether the company is still around or the technicalities of the mod.I do know however that the gauges do read a little out of calibration, probably a sensor gauge mismatch.I do prefer it however to the standard barrel type.
Maybe someone else in the forum with more experience of the instruments can be of further help.

Hi Leon

I was hoping to contact you but couldn't find an obvious link! Thanks for replying.

I am aware that Paul Banham (now Myrtle Productions but previously of Autostyle) undertook these conversions some time ago, but not currently. It is the technical details of the change I am seeking, although it seems the instruments are from the identical V12 configuration (XJ12 and XJ-S V12). Most warning light circuits of the XJ12 match those of the XJ-S, except the ABS, windscreen washers and low fuel lamps. The direction indicators need additional lamps (XJ12 are in the speedo and rev counter) so the XJ-S speedo and rev counter can be retained in the new housing.

Perhaps some others may know more? :?
