Or the car iam going to view 1st is a daimler xj 40? 89 reg.
is is basically true that the daimler is the top of the tree or top trumps and beats the other jags of same era?

By the time you see this it's probably too late but I would stay well clear of an 89 XJ40 (Daimler or otherwise) - looks horrible (IMHO), dodgy electrics etc. you might as well buy a nice Series 3 4.2 - beautiful and easy to mend.

For me, the best choice will always be a 4.0 AJ16 X300 in whatever guise you can afford - pref. XJR  This is acknowledged as the best straight six engine that Jaguar ever made - and thats saying something!

Tho' BB will tell you that a V8 is a cracking bargain if you get the right motor ie no Nikasil probs. timing chains and tensioners all sorted, pref. history and all the expensive electrics/computer generated bits work properly

8)

i would also got for the later XJ12
:D

if you look at ebay ( despite its problems ) you will see 98 XJ8's going for as little as £2k , though i cant vouch for condition etc , Daimler versions will cost you triple for the same age/spec car at the moment

mine cost me more ( a lot more ) , but then i got one hell of a car now i have sorted the few minor issues she had...

Thanks 4 that I suppose an xj8 will be the one to look up on in the future.
The Daimler xj40 had been removed from sale early , before i could go for another look.
Saw it and took for a spin, when i picked up my xjs workshop manual from the guy (selling on ebay).
So was going to give it a proper inspection in the day and dry.
Well fortunately that has made up my mind for me as to whether or not i should buy another.
I suppose 3 cars on the drive is enough already, espescially when one of them is extremely un'cooperative.
