Door guard light cover removal.

Postby Mackie » Mon Feb 19, 2018 9:24 pm

The light has stopped working on the driver’s door I had the handle sorted on today. I thought I’d give the bulb a wiggle just to see if all the door card removal etc., had just loosened it.

I cannot slide the bugger off. I’m worried about applying too much force, but I. Cannot. Get. The. Bugger. Off.

Any tips?

Obviously hope no wires have been severed whilst the door card was off, or I’ll be asking about removing that next!

That dodgy PO again!
This was a regular job! There is a stainless screw underneath. Take that out (and don't lose it!). The cover slides off along the axis of the door by pulling it towards the back of the door. The bulb will have worked loose - push it back in and repeat at least twice a year in my experience!
Annoyingly, the bulb is a push fit that isn't the best design for a door that is opened and slammed shut. I've tried pulling the contacts closer (but be careful not to short them together and blow the fuse!). Slamming the door tends to loosen the bulb in the holder I'm afraid.

I managed to get it off in the end, but no amount of wiggling will get the bulb lit. I’m hoping the bulb has gone and will get a replacement or I shall be looking for explicit instructions for door card removal to check the connection inside! :D

If the door card has been off then perhaps one or both of the bullet connectors haven't been reconnected?

That’s my thinking.
