Hi all

I've just bought my first XJS, having had an XJR in the past. The new one is a 1990 XJR-S, black, all standard, with less than 50,000 miles. I'm the 4th owner, and the car is 90% with just a few minor niggles (mostly electrical) to sort out.

I just thought I'd say hello, and see if there are any other XJR-S owners out there who might have some tips for me.

Here are a few photos...

Looking forward to many hours of fun, both in the car and on the forum. :D

Hi David and welcome,

nice looking car you have got there,

have you done a check on the VIN to determine its exact history , as it looks like you have a ' Guy Salmon ' grille on the front of the bonnet, this has been painted to blend it in, as all the original ones were chrome, and to be honest looked a bit ' naff ' , however, i quite like the look of the colour coded one you have,

i believe that your steering wheel is a ' TWR' ( Tom Walkinshaw Racing ) style sports wheel( it will say TWR or SPORTS in it), and you have the TWR body kit on the outside with the 'Speed-line ' wheels , do you have any documentation saying either TWR , Guy Salmon or XJR-S on it ? , as it seems to be a mix of styles ,

please dont get me wrong, i am not picking holes, but these parts may have been added by the PO to enhance the look of the car, and PO's have been known to ' upgrade ' the look of a car to pass it off as something it isnt , i hope this is not the case and you have a genuine car.....

as to the electrical gremlins, what are they , its best to tackle em one at a time, unless you have a common problem ,

nice to see another member

BB :)

Hi BB

Thanks for the welcome.

I understand that there are a lot of 'modified' cars about, but I think (hope?) I've got a 'straight' one.

The registration document describes the car as a "Jaguarsport XJR-S", and the sales receipt shows it was, indeed, supplied by Guy Salmon to a London businessman. Apart from the nose, and the sunroof (another Guy Salmon tweak, apparently) it looks exactly as per the brochure.

I have no reason to doubt to paperwork, or the previous owner so, as far as I'm concerned, the pedigree of the car looks sound. Unless, of course, anyone here knows different... :?

David,

thats really good news, and i'm glad to see its an original Guy Salmon car to, and being an XJR-S is great , is it a 6ltr ? or the standard 5.3, as they came in both guises

i to have an original factory fit sunroof , its quite unusual with our cars, but mine is a ' sports-pack ' with custom requested Spax suspension components etc ,

would like to see more pix if available

It's a 6.0, and goes like a train :D It has sports suspension etc. as standard, so it also doesn't roll about. Very 'flicky'

Soon - I'll take a few more and post them to photobucket, with a link here.

Thanks for all the interest and good wishes.

David,

Welcome to the Bulletin Board! I hope we'll all be able to help you out with the ineviatble niggling problems that characterise our XJS ownership!

Wow, a Guy Salmon XJR-S! That's the only one I've ever seen! Could you do me a favour, please - when you enter the car in the XJS Register, could you please catgeorise it as an XJR-S but mention in the "Comments" area that it is a "Guy Salmon" model with the original GS grille. This is because you've given me an interesting problem as to how we classify the car! Also, please make sure you've got the correct paint and trim codes to hand when you enter the details. Tks

I look forward to seeing the other photos.

Calm down Paul :D

I'm in the process of trying to enter it onto the register, but gaining entry to the database is causing me some grief. Webman is on to it...

I have a couple more photos here, but I'll put some more up as soon as I can.

Just to tease you, Paul, the paint code is PDH and the trim code AEM (whatever that means  ).

BTW Paul, I'm planning to take the car to the NEC on Sunday. If you're going to be there, PM me your mobile number and you can have a look at it 'in the flesh'.
