englishgrafter,
Welcome to the Bulletin Board! Great to hear that you've got one of the Le Mans cars. I have the details of (at least) eight other cars in the XJS Register. You don't seem to have registered your own car yet, as far as I can see?
We may well have more than nine cars now, but because some owners don't specifically tell me it's a Le Mans car, it goes unrecognised. Interestingly, I wonder if anyone knows exactly how many cars there were? The figure of 100 is always quoted, but I know of car No. 108!
Prhaps we shold do a feature in the magazine one day?
Regards,
Paul Sinnott

PS I will write separately to you re Bulletin Board windscreen badge.

Thanks for your answers guys,i know it can be a bit confusing out there in JagLand.
Leon, your car could well be a Le Mans,as jaguar bought out TWO limited additions. As you rightly quoted there was an addition of 280 cars, which i think was from 1990 and 6.0 litre of varying colours.
Mine was from the original limited addition in 1988, of 100 cars that were all exactly the same Tungsten colour with all of the interiors were the same, they all had the 5.3 litre engine and Speedline alloys.

well,
its bad news i'm afraid,
i'm pritty sure i saw number 89 of the original eddition in my local breakers,,,,,,,this was about two years ago, and the car is now crushed, it had been ' rolled '
in fact i managed to rescue all the interior dash and door wood trim and have it in my own XJS , along with several other choice bits of trim that i needed at the time
, didnt manage to save the perfect seats though, they were the wrong colour for my interior,
i did think about buying the whole car, as the damage wasnt too bad compared to my ' restoration '

Le man saga....
I have No 46 of the 280 1990/91 5.3 ltr cars.No 6 litre versions were made in this run.
The second generation Le mans cars were the only ever home market xjs cars specified with quad headlamps, they were made in four body colours only.Solent blue metallic,Regency red Micatallic,British racing green (solid) and Signal red (solid)..
They were the first jaguars to be fitted with 16in diamond turned lattice alloy wheels.Autolux cream NDR code leather interiors piped in body colour including leather door panels, sapwood veneers, cream leather gearknob, cream bound edged carpets gold bonnet badge, body coloured front lower spoiler.
Some left the factory with the rear boot spoiler fitted.Every car had commemorative sill kickplates with Le mans and build number inside a laurel wreath etched on them.
They were fitted with early catalytic converters and had magnetti marelli ignition systems.A special edition boot badge with Le Mans v12 was also fitted...
Thats all i know...I need a lie down now..

Foxcovert,
Thanks for the very clear summary of the "280" cars. By the way, when you get a moment, could you please update your record in the register for Car 046. Like a lot of members, you've recorded it as being first registered on 1st Jan. I'm pretty sure that won't be correct. Tks
Many people won't have been aware that the two series of Le Mans cars are very different.
The first series of cars were produced as the first offering from the new Jaguarsport division which was a joint venture set up in 1988 between TWR & Jaguar Cars, following on from the success of the upgraded XJS's marketed by TWR. The new XJS model produced by Jaguarsport was called the XJR-S. Jaguar had won Le Mans that year and to commemorate that, the first 100 cars that were produced by the Jaguarsport company were called the Le Mans Celebration cars. The badge on the bootlid still says "XJR-S". All the cars are Tungsten Grey.
The second series of cars (the 280 cars, detailed by Foxcovert, above) were produced by the main Jaguar division to commemorate Jaguar's 1990 Le Mans win. The cars were standard mechanically to V12 HE cars.
The recent debate that we have had on different XJS variants has made us consider how best to restructure the register in order that we can clearly identify the various Limited Edition models and other variants which are owned by our members. We will introduce the changes to the register in the next few weeks.
Regards,
Paul

Foxcovert,
Keep trying to find the movie - I like the quote!!
It's really interesting to hear you've got a 1st Jan reg document. When you get a chance, would you mind please sending me a copy as I'm thinking of doing an article on registrations, and this would be quite helpful. Tks
You'll forgive me for my cynicism that your car might not have been registered on 1st Jan. It's because it seems to be a particular form of laziness on the part of some of our owners when entering their their cars in the XJS Register. As an example, in our register we have:
- 3 cars apparently registered on 00 01
- 1 car apparently registered on 00 02
- 203 cars apparently registered on 00 00
- 142 cars apparently registered on 01 01
So I'm sure you can understand me questioning whether a car is genuinely registered on 1st Jan. I can't believe that 13% of our members cars were really registered on 1st Jan.
So, to all members reading this, PLEASE ensure that your car's details are recorded correctly in the register. Whilst you are doing that, please check all the rest of the details, including entering the colour codes for your paint and interior trim. If you don't know how to find these codes, please drop me an email.
I will be writing an article soon in the magazine requesting members to update their records correctly. If this doesn't have the desired effect, we will then reluctantly need to remove the inaccurate records from the register.
Thanks
Paul
