I recently bought an iCarsoft LR V3.0 diagnostic tool for my 2019 XF Sportbrake. In the list of supported vehicles it says 1994.75, 1995 and 1966 Model Year XJS which was one reason for buying it so I could diagnose my 1995 XJS. However having connected it up to the XJS and asked it to read ODBII codes or Diagnose it says communication failure with the car. It cannot read live data either which is very disappointing. It managed to recognise the car as 'Old XJ' but couldn't get the VIN or anything else. I tried telling it what the car was and then saying it was an X300 but to no avail. My cheap basic Bluetooth OBDII with Android Torque app can do better than the iCarsoft so far on the XJS. I will try again but not sure what I can do differently.

I had a similar thing with my 1995 6.0 coupe and I had a long thread going back in Jan.9th 2021- 'Clearing Memorized Fault Codes'.
My model year is 1994.75 ,but was built in June 1994 but registered in August 1995 on a N-plate (I still don't know why the long gap.)
As stated in my postings, mine had an ODBII port but would not read anything on my reader as you had.
I think the later 1995.25/1996 MY cars would be able to read the codes.
This was most likely to get in-line with the 1995 XJ300 saloons and the US regulations.
In the end, I accepted that only the on-board trip computer could show me some fault codes and that I could clear them by removing the trip computer fuse, ignition on, off, fuse back in method ,as per my final posting.
I assume that the Jag dealers and specialists have a really expensive diagnostic piece of kit to deal with our models of XJS's.

Thanks for the update. I have now managed to get my iCarsoft LR 3.0 to talk to the XJS and read live data. I found that my Bluetooth OBDII reader took a while to create a stable connection with the car so I left that plugged in for a few minutes with the engine running trying to read live data until the connection appeared to be stable then removed it and plugged in the iCarsoft which could then see live data and see more streams than the Bluetooth OBDII reader. It still can't identify the car but getting the live data and checking for DTC is a big step forward.
